How my steemit account was hacked.
Don't get hacked.
Good day all good Steemians.
As we go about our normal activities on here, there abound amongst us some individuals who are scheming every minute to take over our steemit account and lock us out in the rain.
I made a post about a soft shell turtle in this wonderful community.Few hours after posting the piece, I noticed a comment on the post by @muhammadfarhan78 to vote for a witness through a link, the link mimicked steemit witness voting page. I clicked to vote with my password and that was all.
I have always been conscious on the cyberspace, something in me suspected a foul play, I tried to access my profile page but I couldn't. I viewed my wallet as an outsider and noticed that a power down as been started on my nascent wallet. I immediately requested for account recovery but it took over 10 days before my request was approved.
By the time a gained access back into my account, some of my rewards had been powered down and transferred out but I was able to recover whatever was left.
My greatest worry during this hacking experience was the fear that my steemit account would be used to scam unsuspecting Steemians but I'm glad that didn't happen.
As a web developer and a user who has completed all the achievement posts, it is expected that my steemit account should be impenetrable for Hackers. I know all the hacking happened while I shopping and I wasn't paying good attention to what I was clicking. I let down my guard and so I'm to blame.
I made a mistake, the mistake of clicking a link that took me to faked url during a rush home from an outing, I've learnt to calm down and always ensure that I'm steemit.com/. Maybe I'll write about cybersecurity in a subsequent post.
All thanks to everyone who made my account recovery a success. Now all is good and I can continue steemit-ting with the adage 'once bitten, twice shy' in mind.
