Fishing tip #13 Fishing at the right time is a must

Know what you want to catch and where you want to go fishing before you decide on what is the right time for fishing.
There are a few other main factors which I always try to keep in mind;

1. The season

Most fish are not active when it is cold for that reason you will catch less fish in autumn and winter than in spring or summer. I have seen this often. Catching during the December holiday season when it is summer in South Africa resulted in my best catches.

2. The climate of the day

Fish are highly sensitive to temperature. This I have discovered after hours of no results. Fishing at night time is not always good as the water is too cold. I have found that early mornings (sunrise) and late afternoon (sunset) is the best time to go fishing.

Also keep your eye on the weather predictions for the day. If there is a forecast for rain and you cannot make it out to the fishing water before the rain falls rather stay at home and play card games with the kids.
However, fish are very clever and I’m sure many of you will agree with me. They know very well when rain is coming and they don’t even have a weatherman they can consult. They know that they must go look for food before the rain falls which makes it a good time for us to go out fishing. This will also be the same for weather changes.

3. The tides and wind

The tide and the wind influence the movement of the water. Fish is easier to catch when there is movement of water as the movement increase the activities in the water.
Low tides will bring fish from the ocean where high tides will move the fish back into the deeps of the ocean.

I suppose there are more factors but I don’t want fishing to become too complicated for myself. Enjoy what you do is what counts!

Keep fishing!
