The mango tree is an integral part of the life and tradition of the Bengalis. The mango tree is mentioned in all the ancient, middle and modern literatures. Mango tree is our national tree. Mango trees occupy an important place in our national economy. Mango trees are evergreen trees. This tree is quite large. The full grown mango tree takes the shape of an umbrella and can grow up to twenty meters long and thirty meters wide. Its stems are thick, bulging and covered with gray bark. The leaves of mango tree are light green when young and dark green when mature. The buds of the mango tree are small. The flowers hang in clusters like vines. The color of the flower is yellowish white. In the month of Chaitra-Baishakh, when the mango blossoms, it fills the surroundings with a sweet smell. The wood of mango tree is very hard. Various furniture etc. of the house are made with wood. The Hindu community uses mango pallab and sandalwood in cremation as well as mango wood in their worship.
