Basic Knowledge in Agriculture #26
Hello everyone On this occasion I want to participate in a contest held by @hive-118902 about the Steem-agro Contest: "Basic Agricultural Knowledge #26" following my previous entry I would like to invite my friends @sabbirakib @anjinoor @chiagoziee to participate in this contest
Aquaculture, in simpler words: fish farming means raising and breeding fish in such environments aspools or tanks, ponds/floating net cages/breeder aquaria.
Fish farming is used to satisfy human consumption, take industrial raw materials and job opportunities as well.
Fish farming is now an essential element of world food security because human population grows. Human population grows and the demand for animal protein have grown as well. Fish farming is a better option than take- out fisheries that are running out of gas from the over harvesting and destruction marine ecosystems.
Different types of fish that are being cultivated, based on region and market requirements Nearly all freshwater catfishes, tilapia, patin and gourami fishes are preferred as they are of moderate to low economic importance and easy to farm. For brackish/marine water culture certain promising species are milkfish, snappers and groupers.
There are many important steps in the fish cultivation procedure that start from deciding your place, making pond or preliminary product, procurement of healthy seed, supplying quality food, water and disease prevention. Good management and the regular assessment of water quality – temperature, dissolved oxygen, ammonia are of great importance to the success of cultivation.
Feed is the highest cost item of fish production with 60–70 %However, the way feed ( artificial feed in the form of pellets or natural foods such as plankton and worms) are chosen since fish farmers are very particular. Also the cultivation waste management must contribute for no polluting surrounding area.
As for the development of technology in fish cultivation, this is going on. For example, the biofloc system enables high-density culture where microorganisms are used to condition the water and provide a supplementary feed.
It is environmentally-friendly and cost-effective innovation
Fish farming is good for the economy, but more importantly for conservation of fish and aquatic resource. This may mean that in the future, farmed fish could be the key to feeding all of us — and a successful fish farming means the future of world food.
Fish farming could be a great business for those living in rural or coastal areas, especially when proper coaching and initiation, capital, marketing provided.
