Steemit Learning Challenge-S21W5; Plantar Fasciitis"
Hello friends, welcome to my blog. Let's get started...
This is a condition that affects the foot. A condition that affects the plantar fascia with inflammatory symptoms after the heel bone to the toes. There is perceived pain around the heel area due to this inflammation. To know if the pain we have around the heel area is plantar fasciitis, we would notice pain from the few early morning steps we have after a night's sleep or steps made after a prolonged sitting over time.
Causes of Plantar Fasciitis
- Overuse of feet over prolonged standing or unstructured exercises that strain our muscles to the extreme.
- The kind of feet we have may be why this condition happens. Our foot structure is likely the cause of plantar fasciitis. Likely to occur with those with flat feet, high arches, and irregular walking styles.
- Age-related cause as a result of loose elasticity of plantar fascia
- Obsessed individuals are likely susceptible to plantar fasciitis. This is simply because of the pressure exerted on the plantar fascia.
Symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis
There are a few universal signs we should look at when suspecting plantar fasciitis.
- Heel Pain: each time we wake up from our night sleep, the first few steps would come with a sharp pain. Or after a long time of sitting down. Our first few steps will also see these sharp pains.
- Stiffness around the feet area each time we want to use our legs after periods of inactivity.
- Swelling and inflammation in the heel area. When we observe this, it is obvious that we are faced with plantar fasciitis.
Treatment of Plantar Fasciitis
- We can rest the feet from prolonged use, especially from the female gender, who indulges more in home chores. Or desist from unstructured exercises that exert pressure on the plantar fascia.
- Indulging in foot exercises that stretch the plantar fascia. We cannot forget the physical therapy exercises.
- Use of ice rollers on the feet as a tool of massage, to help reduce pain and bring calm.
- Medication and other across-the-counter medications can also help reduce effects.
Types of Plantar Fasciitis
We've already been told about some of the types of plantar fasciitis (acute and chronic plantar fasciitis), however, we still have the following;
- Insertional plantar fasciitis: this is a type of pain occurrence around where the plantar fascia connects the toes.
- Noninsertional plantar fasciitis: unlike the explained insertional type, this happens with pain in the middle of the plantar fascia.
Diagnosing plantar fasciitis is simply a combination of medication, special testing, and physical examination.
Medical examination:
This would require that the medical personnel shall take into cognizance the medical history of the patient. Trying to ascertain the source of the pain would be paramount. By so doing, the nature, location, and duration are ascertained.
There should be an observed and recorded change in mobility. If there are cases of foot stress and all that. We have to be mindful to know to take note of the kind of footwear we wear.
Physical examination:
We have to look at for some universal signs like ascertaining the range of motion. If the feet and ankles are flexible. Outwalking posture is considered before and present to help determine if we are gradually
We can also observe if there is the presence of tenderness around the foot area. This would help deteçt the pain source, the exact location of pain, and inflammation.
Assessment & Imaging Tests
In this case, we may find useful the use of windlass and heel raise test where the big toe is dorsiflexed to ascertain pain from plantar fascia. The imaging text is quite advanced to help get certainty of results. We have the X-ray, MRI, and Ultrasound for this purpose.
Heel Raise Exercise
This happens to be one of the strenuous exercises carried out in plantar fasciitis therapy. Requires stand on the 5 toes for several seconds. This stretches foot muscles.
Toe Curl Exercise
This is an exercise that impacts our respiratory conditions due to its usability. It is a combination of both respiratory and toe exercises.
Ball Rolling
This is an exercise in the form of a heel massage. The heel is rolled on a ball-like object, pressing all corners of the heel. The use of an ice bottle can is ideal in helping to heal reddish and inflammatory feet.
In carrying out these foot exercises, I discovered we should ordinarily practice them to help improve our feet' health. There's improved flexibility within the region. Healthy individuals are prone to have relief on their feet region given the hands-on practicals.
At first, we may feel strain during this exercise, but it is quite relaxing to our heel. Well-structured exercises like the ones demonstrated are ideal for managing cases. Of plantar fasciitis.
Thank you, friends,
I am inviting @goodybest, @chilaw, and @eliany.

Participating in this week's teaching really gave me an idea of what plantar fasciitis is. Thank you for your comment.
Thank you for understanding the lesson and sharing your assignment; I hope that you will enjoy this week's lesson and try to implement it in your life if you see any such case.
Observations
Task 1 (2.8/3)
You have shared a great knowledge about plantar fasciitis, it's symptoms, causes, and types but it would be better if your explain a bit about acute and chronic types. I appreciate your effort.
Task 2 (2.8/3)
In the second question, you tell us about how you have to assess a patient by doing physical examination and history taking, performing investigations and specialized tests. A bit more depth about special tests require to complete the answer. Great.
Task 3 (3.8/4)
You try the toe curls, ball rolling and heel raise. You did the heel raise and ball rolling correctly. But in toe curls, try to curl all your toes not the big toe only. Always remember to cold therapy & rest is the best therapy in the treatment of plantar fasciitis. I appreciate your efforts.
Overall you made a great attempt to answer all the questions. I appreciate your efforts. But next time try to avoid the above written suggestions. Keep learning and try to implement your knowledge to the people suffering from plantar fasciitis or any type of heel pain. Thank you.
This exercise is really a life saving because we trek enough and to relief those muscles we need it.
Your practical steps in the video is encouraging as it is detailed.
Wishing you success 👍
Exactly, we need those exercise to ease off and correct such defects. Thank you for the good wishes
I applaud you for presenting the matter in such a detailed and organized manner. Hope your next posts will be as informative. Good luck for the contest.
