Starting off by wishing all my friends good health. I am here today to participate in a great little engagement challenge. Engagement is the theme of the challenge "sec | s20w1: Impact of Climate Change on Agriculture". This is a very good engagement challenge for us. Because the seasons change in different countries of the world. Globally, climate change is currently affecting agricultural productivity to a great extent, forcing farmers to compensate for the loss and replant later. I will participate in its challenge today with my experience. So let's get started.

Explain in detail how agricultural productivity is affected by climate change.

Agricultural productivity depends on climate change. Our Bangladesh is an agricultural major country. Agriculture has become major due to climate change in this country. But currently, climate change such as temperature, drought and flood are greatly damaging the agricultural production. These problems are not only in this country but the whole world is now facing these problems in the field of agriculture.

  • Temperature : Agricultural productivity largely depends on climate temperature. Farmers produce their agriculture depending on the regional temperature. Due to the rise in climate temperature, the number of plant diseases and pests increases, due to which the crops are severely damaged.

  • Drought : Drought causes great damage in terms of agricultural productivity. Due to drought, various crops cannot produce fruits on time in different regions. For example, in the cultivation of rice, maize, potato, wheat, jute, etc., there is a huge loss due to drought in different regions every year. Due to drought, many times agricultural work cannot use fertilizers or pesticides according to various needs.

  • The flood : Flooding is the biggest threat to the world now due to climate change. Floods are destroying people's livelihoods as well as causing huge damage to agricultural productivity. Floods are becoming more frequent today than ever before. The reason for this is that due to the increase in population, canals and rivers are being filled with earth for their homes and factories. As a result, untimely floods occur again and again. And due to these untimely floods, farmers are not able to produce their crops on time.

An important agricultural resource of our country is jute. Jute is called the golden fiber of Bangladesh. Currently jute is on the verge of extinction due to climate change i.e. excessive droughts and floods.

Discuss how extreme rainfall and extreme drought damage crops.

Extreme rainfall and extreme droughts cause extensive damage to crops. Its discussion is given below.

  • Rainfall: Presently climate change causes untimely rainfall. Due to some man-made houses, factories, land fills etc., rain water cannot go to rivers, canals or seaways. And this excess or untimely rainfall causes floods. But the farmer produces his agriculture according to his area and the flood destroys it. Due to this, the farmer suffers a lot. As a result of frequent rains, our Bangladesh has to face floods and the farmer loses his crops.

  • Drought: As a result of climate change, drought occurs when rainfall is needed in different regions. Then this drought takes a severe form in agriculture. Drought is caused by global warming. To do this every year in our country the cultivation of onions, garlic, green chillies and potatoes is reduced.

Farmers of our country provide food by cultivating these crops. But due to this drought, farmers often cannot produce enough crops. Due to drought, various plant diseases also occur. Therefore, climate change drought is one of the main reasons for agricultural productivity.

Discuss in stages how new pests and diseases are emerging as a result of climate change and what measures farmers can take to prevent them.

Currently, climate change is fueling new pests and diseases. Climate change causes unseasonal heat flux and precipitation. Due to its runoff, various pests are born and due to rainfall, various diseases also arise. These affect the agricultural production. Many times the farmer is unable to cure new pests and diseases in his agricultural work. That is, they cannot deliver medicines on time or have an idea about the disease.

In that case, the farmer should go to Agricultural Information Center, Agricultural Expert Doctor or Agricultural Research Center to solve his farming problems. Nowadays the farmer should use new technology in his agricultural work. In this case it is possible to control the pests and diseases to a large extent. The farmer can take some ideas from the agricultural information in advance regarding his agricultural productivity. Also training of the farmers from various organizations can be a good initiative to increase the agricultural productivity by curing the pests and diseases.

Discuss what changes are needed in irrigation systems due to climate change.

Currently, various technologies are used for irrigation in agricultural work. However, many farmers in different regions still use the previous methods to carry out agricultural end-system projects. Compared to earlier, farmers now use technology, and now they completely rely on nature for irrigation. Current use of drainage and irrigation systems. Introduction of water drainage systems and provision of drainage in agricultural areas. Through these, agricultural productivity will increase. Besides, there is irrigation system through electric motor or pump. Through this irrigation system, it is easier to remove or give water to agriculture. Also, water is irrigated through the nearby rivers, canals, bill ponds etc.

Explain the two best ways to respond to climate change.

Today, climate change has had a major impact on agriculture in almost all regions of the world. So farmers should be aware of climate change and engage in agricultural work. Below are the two best ways to respond to major climate change.

  • Use of technology in agriculture. agriculture is already affected by regional climate change. But now due to climate change such as drought, heat wave and flood, the farmer is not able to grow the crop as per his expectation. So every farmer should get training and use new and new technologies for farming. Various new technologies are currently emerging depending on the climate. So farmers should acquire knowledge about them and cultivate agriculture using them in their agricultural field.

  • Farmers' advance understanding about climate change.Farmers should have advance understanding about climate change. To have an idea of whether the time is suitable for the farmer for his agricultural work by region and to deal with various hindrances and to keep some measures in advance. Many farmers of our country now keep some reserves for agricultural productivity. So that they can cultivate agriculture even after climate change. Apart from this, keeping the water irrigation system around the place of farming is one of the responsibilities of the farmer. In addition, the farmer should use fertilizers, pesticides, etc. according to the advice of an experienced doctor.

Sort:

For the fact that your country is an agricultural country, I like that you made reference to the whole world in general facing this Climate change and the effects it has on their agricultural productivity. Farmers can only get the best yield when climate change and it's seasons are in the favour and when it's not, it is a problem. To reduce these climate change effects, I like that you made mention of introducing technological advancements in agriculture to these farmers. I also feel it'll be a good improvement in increasing agricultural yield despite the ever changing climate.

Good luck and well-done.
