Talk about the roles of fertilizers and pesticides in Agriculture

Chemicals or natural chemicals used to boost fertility of any soil is known as fertilizers. To enable our plants to survive and drive beautifully well, we provide this plans will required nutrients in the soil. If fertilizers are mixed into the soil plants will develop more.

There are two major roles of the fertilizers;

  • They add the micronutrients, minor nutrients and macronutrients to soil in order to supplement and balance already nutrients present in the soil.

  • The boost of aeration and improve water retention capacity thereby improving the soil's efficacy.

Pesticides like herbicides, fungicides, insecticides and animal repellents are used in the farm for the control of best or weeds. These are chemicals that in capacitate and kill pests that disturb the life of a crop or spread disease. It is used to kill insects such as mildews, rusts, moulds, mosquitoes, etc.

There are local fertilizers that are applied to crops to significantly enhance its yield and provide essential nutrients while improving the health of the soil.
Examples of local fertilizers are composts, green manure, crop residues, microorganisms, etc.
Its effectiveness is as good as its benefit which are;

  • Either organic or biofertilizers types of local fertilizers there are increase in crop yield.

  • Local fertilizers enhance soil structure to make it healthy and more fertile.

  • It is more affordable and accessible even to local farmers.

  • Local fertilizers reduce pollution and conserve resources.

Is there any traditional way of killing pests on crops and how effective is it without causing harm to the plant?

There are pest control methods that are traditional and the involve natural solutions and their also effective in managing best without causing harm to the environment or plants.

  • Companion planting: different types of plants are planted together to deter pests. Since some plants gives out chemicals/scents that repel some pests, it is an effective way to reduce pests without using chemicals.

  • Crop rotation: here, when different crops grown on a field are changed periodically, it can reduce or prevent the buildup of pest and diseases in the soil leading to healthier crops.

  • Utilizing beneficial insects: encouraging or introducing natural insects like praying mantis, ladybugs which prey on pest insects, it can be very effective to control pests.

I would like to invite @josepha, @stef1 and @ukpono to join this contest.
