Basic Knowledge in Agriculture #56
What do you understand by Agronomy.
Agronomy is a science of agriculture concerned with crops and soils, on which crops are grown. It deliberates on how they could use plants as foodstuff, fuel, fibre and land replenishment in a sustainable and efficient manner. One such discipline is Agriculture which has integrated science in the fields of biology, chemistry, soil ecology and earth science in an effort to enhance crop growth and their management. Agronomists also find it hard to increase production, pests and weeds and save on the water and the land.
They also examine how climate, fertilizers, irrigation and modern technologies of agricultural activities influence plant growth. Agonomy is concerned with finding economically viable and environmentally friendly agricultural methods that will have the capacity to support the increasing population of people without compromising the future generation ecosystem well being.
Discuss on the components of Agronomy.
Agronomy comprises of a couple of significant components, which work in conjunction with one another to bring about an effective and sustainable crop production. These are the main disciplines, soil science, which covers the principle of soil fertility, soil structure and management in order to enable growth of plants, plant genetics and breeding, which focuses on the creation of an improved variety of crop to give it a high yield in terms of quantity and resistance to pests and diseases, and crop physiology, which concerns itself with the growth and response of the plant to its environment. Another relevant feature is agronomic management; this is the irrigation, fertilization and crop rotation to guarantee maximum production.
Climatology is also an important field because it researches on the effects of weather and climate on the agricultural systems. Lastly, the control of weeds, pest and disease ensure that the crops are healthy. These factors, combined together, can lead to a sustainable food security and development of agriculture.
What are the Importance of Agronomy.
The importance of Agronomy is that it helps in increasing crop production and gives sustainability in agriculture. It goes as far as providing information to the farmers on how to treat their soils, crop rotation, irrigation and pests and this increases yield and keeps the soil fertile. Agronomy goes to an extent of promoting better seeds, fertilizers and modernized practices in agricultural production that enhance production and food security.
It is also instrumental in conservation of the natural resources and the environment in sustainable ways. Besides this, agronomy enhances the development of an economy by increasing agricultural production and providing the raw material in industries. It contributes to the adaptation to the changes in the climate by generating the resilience varieties of crops. In total, agronomy plays a very important role in ensuring that food is sufficient, the environment is taken care of as well as sustainability of agriculture.

Agronomy is indeed a crucial key to creating efficient and sustainable agriculture. Without proper soil, water, and crop management, agricultural yields will not be optimal.

MODs Comment/Recommendation:
You took time to discuss on what Agronomy is, you have also talked about climatology which is important in Agriculture.
