Greeting my beloved steemians. Wow this is my first post in Steem-Agro community. I'm @emishael60 from #nigeria participating in a contest Organised by @hive-118902.

In your own words, what is photosynthesis, and what importance is it in agriculture?

Pho-to-syn-the-sis in simplest definition is the process by which plants make their own food. And they use sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to create glucose and oxygen which is simply Thier food. This process happens in the leaves of plants around us, whereby a green pigment that makes the plant had the green colour we see called chlorophyll absorb or captured sunlight. This simple process is very importance in Agriculture.

Pho-to-syn-the-sis provides:

  • Food Production:It helps in producing the food that plants needs in growing.Sonif there is no photosynthesis the plants would not be able to produce thier fruits, vegetables, thier grains, and other crops that we eat everyday.

  • Oxygen Production: It also helps in releasing oxygen into the air, which is very important for we humans and animals to breathe.

  • Energy: Without energy I don't think the crops will grow.So in this method the glucose that is produced during photosynthesis is very important because it is used by the plants as a very big source of energy to grow and develop themselves, and it leads to a good crops yielding.

What are the key essential nutrients required by plants, and what role does each of them play in plant growth?

Plants need several and lots of nutrients to grow healthy and strong. These nutrients can be divided into three main groups which is primary nutrients, secondary nutrients, and micronutrients.

Primary Nutrient consist of Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium. These three types of primary nutrients as thier different advantages which are:

  • Nitrogen: It Helps plants grow quickly, which leads to increase of seeds and fruit production, and improves thier leaf quality.

  • Phosphorus: It helps in root development, flower and fruit production, and the overall plant strength and growth.

  • Potassium: It is very important nutrients because with potassium the plants will be able to resist diseases, improves fruit quality, and supports plant health.

Secondary Nutrients consist of 3 types the same as the primary nutrients, but it has more deeper advantages.Below are the types and their functions:

  • Calcium : It Strengthens the cell walls In plant, which will helps the plants stand upright , straight and resist diseases that may comes.

  • Magnesium:It is very useful in the process of photosynthesis because it is a part of the chlorophyll molecule that help the plant to have food.

  • Sulfur:We human needs protein in our body. So sulphur is the right source of protein for Plants. The protein help the crops to yield more fast and matured with a lot of nutrients in them.

Micronutrients are other small nutrients that the plant needs too. Thoe they are small but they are all important for plants. Below are all the seven micronutrients:

  • Iron: It is important for green colour production In the leaves of the plant production and overall plant health.

  • Manganese: Helps with photosynthesis and it helps too in the process of removing excess nitrogen from the plant body through the convertion of Amino acid to energy.

  • Zinc: Important for growth hormone production and thier enzyme systems.

  • Copper: Helps with photosynthesis and respiration growth and development.

  • Boron: It is Important for cell wall formation and reproductive growth.

  • Molybdenum: Helps with nitrogen fixation and enzyme function.

  • Chlorine: Important for osmosis and ionic balance within the plant.

Briefly explain this terminologies; ¹"mixed farming" and ²"crop rotation."

  • Mixed Farming:
With the word mixed we can simply understand what it's all about.Mixed farming is a type of agriculture where a farmer grows crops and raises animals on that same farm. This method allows farmers to increase their income and make better use of their land.

Example: A farmer might want to grow corn and wheats ,while on the same farm he can also choose to raise cows and chickens.

  • Crop Rotation:
With the word Rotation too it is quite understanding that Crop rotation is the practice of growing different types of crops in the same area in different seasons. This will helps in maintaining the soil fertility and reduces soil erosion and stop pest building up

Example: A farmer can plant corn one year, followed by beans the next year, and then wheat the third year cassava the fourth year.

Explain three (3) roles of agriculture in your country.

In my country Nigeria, here are three important roles of agriculture:

  • Food Security: Agriculture brings us the food that we need to survive here in Nigeria. So lby growing a variety of crops and raising animals, farmers ensure that there is enough food to feed the whole population in Nigeria.

Employment:There are many graduate who haven't yet been employed. But with the help of Agriculture, people are employed. Why I said so is because Many people work on thier farms, the process and sell goods from the farm. It helps in food processing, and in related industries world wide. This helps reduce unemployment and supports the economy.

Economic Growth:Agriculture really come as a means of contribution and help to the economy by providing raw materials for industries, such as the Cotton for textiles and crops for food processing and consume by us. It also generates income through the selling and exporting of agricultural products.

Conclusion

Let us not forget that photosynthesis, essential nutrients, and farming practices like mixed farming and crop rotation is very important for improving agricultural productivity. And Agriculture does not only provides food and employment but also supports economic growth. By using these practices and knowledge, farmers can ensure sustainable and efficient farming, which benefits everyone.
