Soil enhancement is a process which improves the soil moisture and fertility. Practicing the various acts that improves fertility is good as a farmer. Organic matter helps the soil stay safe and secure. Best of luck to all the contest participants.

What do you understand by soil enhancement? Have you practised it before?

Soil enhancement can be defined as a process by which nutrients are being added to the soil in other to improve it's fertility, appearance and also to provide good environments for roots.

Soil enhancement can also be referred as a method of activating the soil to perform it usually functions such as providing manure for crops serving as a means where crops can survive in they maturity and harvest.

Practicing soil enhancement is an act which requires experience which I have done. I did it twice. It was the time I went to the farm to dispose dirty on the soil for it to decay to later become useful by improving the soils fertility. The second time I practiced soil enhancement was the time I went to our plantain farm to dispose dirty into the farm which is known as compost manure.

How does your soil enhancement method improve soil fertility in the long term?

Adding compost manure to my our plantain at home.

Soil enhancement can improve soil fertility in long term when we plant cover crops which add organic matter into the soil. The act of growing legumes like groundnuts which fix's nitrogen into the soil is also a way of improving the soil fertility in long term.

We can also enhance the soil fertility in long terms by having a good drainage system where water can easily reach the soil to renew it's fertility and keep the soil prepared to make the crops health. Soil enhancement helps improve soil fertility in long term through the practice of crop rotation which can be boast the soil fertility.

Soil enhancement helps the soil to be able to accept any crop for cultivation while practicing mixed farming.

What organic materials or amendments have you used to improve soil quality?

For clay soil, organic additions improve drainage and aeration and help the soil dry out and warm up more quickly in the spring. Good organic amendments for garden soils include wood by-products such as sawdust and bark mulch, rotted manure,wheat straw and compost.

Compost,worm castings, leaf mold, and biochar are a few examples of animal and plant-based soil amendments that enrich the soil with organic matter. Azomite, dolomitic limestone, greensand, and gypsum are several mineral-based soil amendments that add essential nutrients to the soil.

What are the practices you have used to retain moisture in your soil?

One of the practice that I have engaged in other to retain moisture in my soil is crop rotation. Crop rotation is an act of cultivating different kinds of crops year after year on the same piece of land. This act helps you to maintain good soil type which helps your soil to retain moisture due to the cultivation of several crops on it thereby making the soil acceptable to any crop.

I have also practiced the act of mulching in my soil to retain it's moisture. Mulching is the act of adding dry leaves on the soil to help retain it's lost moisture and forms a layer between the soil and the environment, reducing evaporation of water from the a soil.

Animal manure which is the most valuable manure easy to get this days and it's application in the soil really helps the soil to retain it's soil fertility. Animal manure is highly acceptable by almost all crops and weeds around the world and helps the soil fertility to function to it's full potentials.
