"Living in the Agricultural World #4"
Agriculture is the cultivation of crops and the raising of animals for the benefit of man. Mixed farming is the type of agricultural practice which involves both the cultivation of crops and the raising of animals on the same farm land. I like keeping the soil healthy because it increases the yield of crops and water holding capacity of the soil.
• What are the types of agricultural practices? Briefly explain two. |
---|
They are a lot of agriculture practices which farmers engage in to make sure that plants stay healthy at all time. Here are the various agriculture practicing which I know.
Mixed farming.
Subsistence farming.
Crop rotation.
Aquaculture.
Pastoral farming.
Organic farming.
Irrigation.
Agroforestry.
Livestock farming.
Preparation of soil.
ORGANIC FARMING
Organic farming can be defined as a system of farming which involves the cultivation of crops without the use chemicals, fertilizers and pesticides to enhance the growth of crops in terms of maturity and faster growth.
IMPORTANCE OF ORGANIC FARMING
Here are the importance of organic farming to agriculture.
When you practice organic farming the soil's organic matter will increase.
Organic farming helps to increase and improve the water holding capacity of the soil.
It helps to increase the level of nutrients mineralization of the soil.
It also aids the biological activities in the soil.
IRRIGATION
Irrigation is an agricultural activities that has to do with the artificial application of water to the soil, and also to help control the amount of water that the land needs to help crops grow well. Some land requires irrigation in other make them useable for the cultivation of crops. Irrigation system is used mainly in areas where they is limited amount of rainfall.
IMPORTANCE OF IRRIGATION
Irrigation provides the soil with Water during drought.
Irrigation also servers as a means of making the soil not to lack water at all.
This agriculture practice helps plants to carry out the process of photosynthesis.
• Why do you think maintaining healthy soil is important? |
---|
Maintaining a healthy soil for plants is very important because of the following reasons.
Maintaining a healthy soils helps the soil to work with the land and not against it in other to improve a soil fertility, reducing erosion, enhance water infiltration and holding of the soil. Keeping the soil healthy improves the amount of produce which are to be harvested.
Maintaining a healthy soil m always keep crops healthy and strong, helping them to mature and produce crops faster. This act aids the sustainans of both plants and animals, regulating water, availability of physical stability and support for crops and the filtering of pollutants capable of destroying the soils structure and texture.
A healthy soil is a source for plants to grow for animal and man consumption. Maintaining a healthy soil gives support for plants by providing them with their required nutrients.
• Explain the two main types of farming. |
---|
There are two types of farming which are;
Industrialized agriculture.
Subsistence agriculture.
INDUSTRIALIZED AGRICULTURE
Industrialized agriculture is a type of farming which involves the cultivation of crops and animals in a large scale/quality for the purpose of having a large production and economical growth.
Industrialized agriculture is based on intensive production of animals and crops, which may likely approve the use of fertilizers for the production of crops and the use of antibiotics for animals.
SUBSISTENCE AGRICULTURE
Subsistence agriculture can be defined as the farming process which is the cultivation of crops, as well as animals for household consumption. This type farming is done for family purposes, it is also done to help increase the amount of local traders in the market.
This kind of farming is also seen as an act of cultivating of crops and rearing of livestock by a farmer for his family living little for sale in other to enhance the local marking strategy.
• What are greenhouses? Mention two types of greenhouse. |
---|
A greenhouse can be referred as a glass or plastic farming structure which is used in the cultivation of both vegetables, flowers and fruits such as tomatoes, pumpkin leave, bitter leaves, cabbage and carrots. It is also a place where plants that are favoured by certain temperature are produced.
A greenhouse is a glass building that is usually warm in both summer and winter, the plants get warmed by the sunlight during the day to ensure proper production.
TYPES OF GREENHOUSE
Here are the two types of green house which I am required of in this question.
Attached greenhouse.
Dome greenhouse.
I will now like to invite my friends which are @goodybest, @pandora2010, @entity01, @bonaventure24, @josepha and @max-pro to participate this contest.
