Irrigation Systems.
Hello, friends from around the world. It's a pleasure to be part of this contest. Irrigation is one of the agricultural practices that is necessary for crop survival, Whenever ever I hear the word irrigation, I remember water application and photosynthesis, wishing you all the best.
Why is irrigation necessary for agriculture?
---
Firstly, I would like to start with the definition of irrigation. Irrigation can be defined as an act of applying water artificially to the soil to increase crop growth and maintain good water quality in the soil.
Irrigation is important because it is a reliable and good source of water for crops, helping them to grow and mature in a good state even in places with less rainfall. This helps to increase the high yield of crops making farmers have more profit and increasing food security in nations
When an irrigation system is practiced during the dry season, irrigation can be a replacement for rainfall, helping farmers cultivate crops in times of low precipitation. Since irrigation helps to maintain adequate crop production, it also has a role it plays in food security; it helps in food security major, ly in areas that often experience drought.
Irrigation also helps in extending the planting season through the constant provision of water, farmers now have access to increase their planting season, planting early and harvesting in due time. Irrigation can help farmers to cultivate different kinds of crops even in areas that may not thrive completely on natural rainfall. When constantly supplying the soil with water via irrigation helps plants grow well and improves productivity.
◉ Explain how rainwater harvesting can supplement irrigation.
---
Irrigation is practiced in the dry season to provide water for crops whenever there is a low amount of rainfall. Rainwater harvesting systems can be installed on ponds, roofs, or in some areas in other store rainwater.
How rainfall can supplement irrigation.
Rainwater harvesting can help increase farmers' income through the production of crops in large quantities, especially during the dry season.
Rainwater harvesting helps to increase the moisture level of the soil, helping plants grow, it is a good supplement for irritation.
Rainwater harvesting helps farmers to not only rely on groundwater or other water sources.
◉ Compare drip irrigation and sprinkler irrigation.
---
Let the comparison begin!!!. Sprinkler irrigation and drip irrigation are different methods of providing water for plants; each has a different way of application and how effective it is. Drip irrigation is done by releasing water through the roots of plants via tubes or pipes. Sprinkler irrigation is done by spraying water over a large area and making use of high-pressure jets.
A drip irrigation system is usually more expensive to set up because of its high cost, while a sprinkler irrigation system is cheaper, but it doesn't save money on water bills as drip irrigation.
The sprinkler system has a shallow effect, which may cause deep roots not to receive a good amount of water, making drip preferable because it supplies water to all the roots.
A sprinkler irrigation system has more ability to waste water if it is not adjusted properly; this then also may cause the weeds to grow and may attract mosquitoes as well. Rather, the drip irrigation system doesn't waste water at all.
Drip irrigation can help reduce the risks of diseases by decreasing water contact with leaves and stems, but sprinkler irrigation helps prevent lawn diseases.
