Basic Knowledge in Agriculture #45
•Importance of forests:
When I think about forests, I just feel they are like the lungs of our earth. Sometimes I imagine if trees all gone, how do we even breathe proper. They make oxygen for me and for everyone and also take away the bad carbon thing from the air. I notice too that forest keep the weather softer, not too hot and also bring the rains in places that need them. Without tree roots the soil will just wash away with heavy rain, but the roots hold it together like a net. Even water underground stay more when forest stand strong. For people like me, forests give wood, fruits, medicine, and sometimes even just peace for the mind when walking there.
•Types of forest:
Now, I remember there are many types of forests, not all look the same.
•Some in hot countries, near equator, they are full of green all year and rain falls a lot, those are RAINFOREST.
•Other ones, the TROPICAL DECIDUOUS, lose leaves when there is no rain so they can survive.
•Let's talk about TEMPERATATE FOREST, this places are not too hot, not too cold, the trees can be evergreen or the kind that drop leaves.
•Then up in the cold far lands, there is TAIGA, where pines and fir grow tall and sharp.
•In salty sea coasts, MANGROVES live, their roots go in mud and water, very strange but useful trees. On high mountains also, the forest change as you go up, sometimes small shrubs, sometimes tall trees.
•Wildlife conservation:
Wildlife also very important, and I always feel sad when animals lose homes. To conserve them means to protect not only animals but also plants, so that the whole system don’t break. Every animal has role, small or big, from insect up to tiger. If one is gone, something else goes wrong. Some plants and creatures give us medicines, maybe cure for sickness that we not even discover yet. I like to think also about how many people go see wild animals, it makes tourism and money for countries. So, keeping wildlife safe is not only kindness, it is smart too. National parks, sanctuaries, planting more trees, stopping hunters who kill for fun—these things all help.
•Effect of deforestation:
But when humans cut trees too much, that is deforestation. I see it bring only problems. Soil erode away, water disappear, land get dry, desert form. Weather turn strange, hotter, no rain at right times. Without shade and roots, flood happen more often, or drought. Animals vanish because they got no home left. Even humans, tribal people who live in forest, they lose everything. And planet warms because no more trees to eat the extra carbon.
So for me, it simple. Forest is life, no forest means no future.
