El baile es una de las máximas expresiones de libertad del ser humano, en los tiempos de esclavitud representó la fuerza para muchos y su vía de escape hacia la felicidad. En mi región zuliana y en general en varias de Venezuela, prevalece una danza denominada el “Joropo” que viene acompañada de música venezolana folklórica y con acentuación llanera, pero que adentró en toda nuestra idiosincrasia.

Dancing is one of the highest expressions of freedom of the human being, in times of slavery it represented the strength for many and their escape route to happiness. In my region of Zulia and in general in several regions of Venezuela, a dance called the "Joropo" prevails, which is accompanied by Venezuelan folkloric music with a "llanera" accentuation, but which has penetrated into all our idiosyncrasy.

Cuando era niña, en la escuela primaria, llegué a bailar joropo, en los actos escolares. Más adelante le correspondió a mis dos hijos. Es que es una tradición que se niega a morir, y que gracias a las instituciones educativas ha persistido. Los trajes que se utilizan son de una gala muy bonitos, recordando nuestros antepasados. Las chicas, una amplia falda de tela fresca, colorida o estampadas, y los chicos con pantalones tipo caqui y sobrero de guama.

When I was a child, in elementary school, I got to dance joropo, in school events. Later it was my two children's turn. It is a tradition that refuses to die, and that thanks to the educational institutions has persisted. The costumes that are used are of a very beautiful gala, remembering our ancestors. The girls, a wide skirt of fresh, colorful or printed fabric, and the boys with khaki pants and a hat of guama.

La música es muy linda, y sus letras hablan de nuestra naturaleza y amores. El baile consiste en movimientos donde la dama toma su falda al ritmo de los movimientos y el caballero la sigue al son de la melodía, dando una escenografía esplendorosa que te transporte a tus raíces venezolanas.

The music is very beautiful, and the lyrics speak of our nature and loves. The dance consists of movements where the lady takes her skirt to the rhythm of the movements and the gentleman follows her to the sound of the melody, giving a splendorous scenery that transports you to your Venezuelan roots.
