What is your definition of a professional Teacher?

A professional teacher is one who has a deep passion for teaching, a deep understanding of what they teach with the ability to clearly communicate knowledge to their students, along with a strong commitment to their students progress.
I would add that a professional teacher is one who has also gone through training and has the qualifications to teach at any level, field or specialty, not just the qualifications but knows the technical workings on how to drive, inspire, motivate, educate and mentor their students.

How do we differentiate a professional Teacher from those who are in the field for just the salary?

A professional teacher communicated and passes down knowledge with passion, has the students at heart, makes sacrifices to understand the demands of each child/student/ward in their care, and find methods of teaching that would attract the child, inform the child and cause the child to learn. A professional teacher serves as a mentor and often communicates with the heart of the students ensuring their comfort while propelling them for success. While the teacher who is engaged for the salary just doesn't put in the sacrifice and most often times makes learning a bore, they often lack the dedication children require and pay little or no attention to students mostly if there's one person in class who understands.

What are the criteria for becoming a professional Teacher?

The criterias for being a professional teacher are that he or she must:

  • Be trained to teach.
  • Be passionate about teaching and everything it entails.
  • Have a deep understanding of the subject matter they teach or the field they specialize in.
  • Have the ability to communicate knowledge clearly to students.
  • Be able to build positive relationships with students and create a conducive learning environment.
  • Be able to assess student progress and provide feedback to help them improve.
  • Have a strong commitment to professional development and a willingness to learn new things and be teachable.
  • Know how to involve the child's parent in the learning process.

Do you think those who are there for the salary can offer same thing with professionals Who has passion for their work.

In some rare instances those who are there for the money actually almost offer the same value as those who are professional. This is because some eventually find out that they love to give knowledge and derive happiness teaching. Apart from all these they both don't offer the same value. I had a few corpers teach me, and economics was a subject half the class stopped taking cause the HOD was quite harsh, in a month with the corper, the HOD handed him just 12 students, the entire class offered the subjects and when he left, the number reduced to 5. In the same space we had a corper who was to take us computer and as beautiful as it seems, it was the first ever students failed ICT and failed until she left, once she enters class, the class becomes gloomy and not responsive. She noticed and wondered why it was so in her last term and not so with other corpers but it was too late as the class would rather not have anything to do with her.

What is your say/ Experience about this two in the field of teaching.?

I have experienced both sides of the coin. I had two different experiences with those who were teaching for the salary and they both had different endings, the first was quite nonchalant and didn't know how to even teach, couldn't explain, barely answered questions from the students but just listed stuffs from the textbook and all. The second was quite emphatic eventually fell in passion with the job and really bonded with the students.

The experience with the professional teacher was worthwhile, he was quite emphatic and he taught with so much passion, you could literally feel the zeal in his voice. He brokendown concepts to the least piece to aid understanding. I always looked forward to class.
