As coronavirus ravages Spain, scientists are in a race against time

Tell me something reguarding these people giving samples; Why can't the people be given a Petri-dish and those whom are getting tested SPIT in the dish and puy the lid on it and then put that into a specimen bag and give that to the health-care workers?....... Instead of exposing ALL these health-care workers to unessary situations that put them at a much higher risk than need be??
