Balancing worker rights against business friendly practices to attract foreign direct investment has always been a difficult conundrum for the policymakers in every country and particularly so in the developing and third world countries. The problem is accentuated if the workers have been used to enjoying highly favorable labor rights and are now being asked to give that up for the sake of job creation for those who are still unemployed. As myopic as it might appear, that is how majority of the population in many countries think.
