What Are Antioxidants, and How Much of Them Should You Be Eating?
Our synopsis and notes
Why is there is so much fuss and buzz about antioxidants?
Well, to understand this you need to know what free radicals are and how they affect you.
Free radicals are the bad guys and they come from many sources. The metabolism in our body produces free radicals and so does the taking drugs, pollution, cigarette smoke, intense exercise, pesticides, radiation (think UV light and X-ray) and more. You cannot altogether avoid it but can reduce it with right precautions.
Free radicals are unstable and highly reactive compounds in our body that extract electrons from other compounds to become stable but in the process makes the other compound unstable (and hence a free radical) and thereby causes a chain reaction. This in turn damages our cells through a process called oxidative stress.
While we are exposed to free radical from many sources, we can limit the exposure where we can by taking the appropriate precautions. Antioxidants help neutralize free radicals.
The article we share below tells all that you need to know about antioxidants and how to incorporate them into your diet.
