The Kanli Tower

The Kanli Tower (Bloody Tower, Porte di terra) was built in 1539.

After the second occupation of Herceg Novi, the Turks built this fortress. It is located on the north side of the city, it was built on the foundations of an older fortress and the name "bloody" came from its purpose. In fact, in the fortress was housed a notorious Turkish prison where they tortured some locals.

Later, after the conquest of Herceg Novi (1687), the Venetians modified the fortress in their own style.

In the 1960s, the interior of the fortress was transformed into a beautiful summer stage.
