My garden & crops

A vegetable garden is a small, well planned outdoor space for growing edible products.

Other types of garden are:

• Flower garden
• Herb garden
• Sensory garden
• Zen garden

In this post, i will be showing you my vegetable garden, i will show you how i developed it.

Introducing my garden and crops through photography and selfies.

I grow fluted pumpkin in my vegetable garden with few stands of okra. Fluted pumpkin better identified as Telfairia occidentalis is a type of vegetable that is native to some West African countries.

The AkwaIbom people of Nigeria know it as Ikong-ubong while the Igbo people call it Ugu leaf, the Yoruba call it Kobogobo.

Fluted pumpkin soup is one of the Ibibio peoples traditional soup known as Afere edikang ikong. If you should visit the Ibibio people, they will likely welcome you with this traditional dish.

About the crops I have grown in my garden.

Fluted pumpkin grows like a vine, and as such, it needs a trellis to climb and spread on. The trellis acts as a climbing frame, lifting the vine from the ground, protecting it from getting infected, prompting better yields of leaves and fruits.

The type of fluted pumpkin i planted this year will need a better and stronger trellis to climb on.

After the trellis construction, I helped the pumpkin up the trellis, and it took it up from there,

It went from being so scanty to becoming very densely populated.

The sterm is becoming very big, its flowering, and i am expecting the pumpkin to start popping out gradually.

My garden and crops contribute to the economy?

The amount of vegetables produced by my garden is more than what we can consume at home. Using it at home already saves some cash, and taking the excess to the market creates some revenue for the family. The edible seed is rich in protein and oil.

Measures taken for diagnosis and prevention of various diseases?

Taking the vine off the ground prvents soil borne infections from getting to the pumpkin plant.

Rain would have splashed earth and got the plant infected by fungus from the gtound.

Conclusion
Farming is beautiful, provides us with satisfying work, food, and occupation. I love farming and here is my vegetable garden.
