Well thought out and nicely presented essay. I would add that government needs to support and encourage the use of non-harmful methods of controlling insect damage and limit the use of chemical fertilizers which after repeated use deplete the soil. It may be different in different countries but in the US the disastrous after affects of these dangerous agricultural practices are being felt. Pesticides and chemical fertilization can bring an immediate profit but over the long run the fields are destroyed.
