Pandemic and health

Before Covid-19 arrived, there had already been other pandemics in human history. According to what I have scrutinized in the books, the first was during the Middle Ages, this being The Black Death, a disease that devastated a large part of the European population at that time.

Later other diseases arose that were spreading throughout America since, the time of the conquest was being lived. Historians detail that, in this period, measles, influenza and typhus developed. I remember that during a class at school, a teacher related that with these diseases, more than 90 million people died around the world, this being a very scandalous figure for the population margin that existed at that time.

If we get a little closer to the last centuries, we can analyze the diseases that arose starting from the following chronology that I share with you:

  • Asian flu began in 1957.
  • Hong Kong Flu, started in 1968.
  • HIV began in 1980 and this disease is still maintained today, being the most complicated to eradicate.
  • SARS Cov 1, started in 2002.
  • Swine flu AH1N1, started in 2009.
  • Ebola began in 2014.
  • MERS, started in 2015.
  • SARS Cov 2, started at the end of 2019 and still stands.

Now, the pandemics that emerged before Covid, were devastating, however, there is a great difference factor which generates that the Coronavirus of 2019 is the worst pandemic that has hit humanity since, for the first time we witnessed a global quarantine that exceeded 3 consecutive months.

In the same way, with covid we witnessed the speed of the installation order at the time of indicating that we would have a transitional state of emergency and all air and land borders were closed since it was essential to create sanitary fences in order to stop the rapid spread that SARS Cov 2 was having.

In simpler words, we witnessed how the Coronavirus got out of control and the health authorities did not have adequate responses to act immediately and thus, be able to stop the ferocious wolf called Covid-19. In those terrible moments of the year 2020, the only solution to the problem they posed to us was to accept the mandatory confinement because, if we remained isolated, we had the opportunity to avoid contagion.

Undoubtedly, Covid-19 is and continues to be a devastating pandemic, however, it is necessary to note that, only it was not a lung disease because, many people and in this I include myself, it affected us psychologically since, we felt afraid to go out and get infected.

Personally I felt that if I was around someone, the infection was going to take over me and I didn't have confidence to touch anything that wasn't in my house because I immediately thought I was infected. I practically lost control of my mental stability and this was also generated by the extensive confinement to which I was subjected.

On the other hand, the news was responsible for recounting the death of some people and the origin of this event was not because they were infected, but they decided to take their own lives since, they had no control of their emotional stability and the fear they felt of a possible contagion, took them to that limit.

Finally, the Covid-19 pandemic left the entire human population in check. It was evident that, we were not created to be distant and at the same time, how fragile we are because although in some moments we have had attitudes of superiority and owners of the world, a small virus called SARS Cov 2, neutralized us in its entirety quickly.

Of the things I wouldn't want to relive at some point, Covid-19 is in the first place because, despite having learned several positive things, the emotional instability was very uncomfortable and honestly, I wouldn't like to have the emotions out of control again.
