A MERRY HEART | Proverbs 17:22

Proverbs 17:22

"A Merry heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones."

Why there is a need for us to cultivate a merry heart? We Christians are called to experience a blessed life and what a joy to know that being blessed is being in the continuous state of happiness.

And our hearts is the store house of such lasting experience that will lead and develop a merry heart. But why most of the time and instead of experiencing such wonderful real provision--we end feeling discourage, lost, unhappy, disappointed? God called us to have eternal relationship with Jesus and through that relationship we should always experience that over flowing joy, that merry heart. I would like to give you some suggestions as to how we can cultivate a merry heart. Would you like a merry heart?

Nurture your relationship with God

Make sure that you spend time with the Lord. Don’t just seek peace with God, but remember we have peace with God through the Lord Jesus Christ. As Jesus said in John 14:27

"Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

Remember: A Merry heart is peaceful heart, cultivating it through having an intimacy with God.

Cultivate a forgiving spirit.

Ephesians 4:32 says:

“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted and gentle, forgiving one another as God for Christ’s sake has forgiven you.”

There are people who are suffering physically because they are angry, bitter and refuse to forgive. Forgiveness is a key to a healing heart. If you want to experience such kind of unspeakable joy in your heart learn to forgive as the Lord forgave you.

Focus your heart on things above

Colossians 3:1-3 says,

“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds of things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.”

Settle yourself on concealed realities. Think about the things that you know to be true but you can’t see. Things like heaven, like eternity, like Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.

God designed our hearts to experience unspeakable joy brought about by our relationship Christ. So the next time you felt so sad and lonely then think about Proverbs 17:22 "A merry heart is a good medicine..."
