The only important thing is to live for God and show our faith to others while we still can. God CAN protect us but we don't know that he will. Christians are subject to persecution around the world. Why wouldn't we be subject to disease too?
You have said it
If you believe that he will then it will be so with faith. Once you are truly living for God and God still need you on this earth, then you are assured that his protection will be upon you.
Christians persecution is all about facing danger for the name of Jesus and not facing diseases/virus which is trial times.
