Top 3 Favourite Date Night Suggestions
Working Years Late Teens Early Twenties
Before and after marriage, that time when you treated yourself regularly to a meal out, went onto the movies or took in a live show, a ballet or musical what a treat! Dressed up to the nines in the latest gear, swanned into a restaurant for a candlelit evening talking about what could or should happen going into your future. Not too worried it all looked good.
Suggestion number one! Go out, take the night off cooking, enjoy good company if/when you marry and have children you may not see these days in a hurry again....

Twenties, Thirties and Forties
As the years move on, you look again with a house mortgage, two children, very little in the piggy bank to take you too far for too long. Working a full day with two little ones to care for, it is crazy but parents tend to put their lives on hold, no way. Pack the car for a treat, night out at the drive-in, yeah baby remember those!

Two and four year old's on the back seat, drive-in always had fast food outlet that was not overly expensive, remember to cover the backseat with a blanket this is more a picnic than a dinner date, now have in a foggy memory of a couple of years ago.
Expect children to clamber over from the back seat hit the speaker out the window, expect chicken pieces becoming airborne, expect the toilet call in the middle of a movie, heck they are boys after all.
Suggestion number two! Get out of the house, take the children with if you can't get a babysiter, it is always a night out to remember!

Fifties and Sixties - You Are Still Young....
You loved date nights when you had cash to splash going out, suddenly realized during late twenties early thirties you have children to consider/survive, what happens doesn't end there. After twenty plus years of children growing up, you no longer go on date nights.
Lost the secret, lost the plot, no not quite yet, still more to come.
Going on annual holiday, always treat yourself to a night out! Maybe someone has forgotten.... you still need a night out, plan it, never let yourself down! Tomorrow is another day, don't wait.... do it, before you no longer trust driving nor always caring about everyone else.
Suggestion number three! Night out no longer happening when home, plan around holidays to enjoy someone else's cooking, if you don't go away on holidays buy a pie and eat it on a park bench!

Oh, that made me smile, @joanstewart!
Getting to the ballet is something I missed here in Durban when we arrived. Memorable nights out at Johannesburg Civic Center when PACT Ballet Company along with other great entertainers showcased their talents and art.
This brought back many memories @joanstewart! Remember the queues of traffic trying to get into the drive-in, today's kids would find that so funny but it was a fun night out even if some of us fell asleep if the movie got boring and then some couples would be too busy smooching to see anything at all;);)
How times have changed!
Lovely post Joan!
We had about 6 drive-in's close to home in Johannesburg and two down here in Durban, one in Toti which was so convenient. Yes load the car, queues to get in and settle before the show started. Here in Durban it was so warm out one could throw a blanket next to the car and sit out, good memories!
My brothers always used to sit outside. I remember now that one used to be restricted to 6 per car, we were 5 children so my youngest brother always sat on the floor with a blanket thrown over him to hide away when we entered the gates;);) Good old nemories rekindled by your post
Sneaking you brother in, what a wonderful memory LOL.
Ah... too true... as soon as the kids come... date nights are few and far between... and cost more than their weight in babysitting costs!
Sneak out and plan a lunch date while they are at school, bunk work and take time LOL.... Always many ways to get around small problems.
Haha, dating by the decades. Love it Joan! A pie and a park bench...now that sounds like a nice idea regardless. ;)
We put too much emphasis into doing what is right by all around us, yes we should selfishly guard some off time.
I love your three suggestions, especially that it shows different scenario as time goes by. Hahaha! 😂 Love it. It's very realistic. And not to mention, I love the giphy you have used! I have never done that here before. You just opened up my mind for this new possibility. Thank you @joanstewart. 😍
Oh you can thank @traciyork with the Giphy idea, how to fill gaps when you really don't have photo's, she is brilliant!
Change happens, life is constantly changing we had good fun finding ways of still enjoying a night out one way or another.

Not so sure how big drive-in's were in NZ, I know USA they were super popular, here in SA we had many to go to being a warmer climate.
Life is what you make it, I have met folks who cry they have no money, to enjoy some things you really don't have to stretch the imagination too far.
Drive Ins were few and far between in New Zealand, I think I only ever saw one
And yes some people focus far too much on money and not enjoyment which can come without having to spend a lot
People have forgotten the art of entertaining themselves. First family car only arrived when I was about 15 years old, so you walked most places and had to entertain yourself on the little money you earned from doing chores.
Ohh yeah thats so true and I can relate, nowadays peoples world seems to be in whatever device they are carrying and they miss so much
Great suggestions! Especially when family comes it's easy to neglect the relationship. Taking time out from the normal day to enjoy each other is imperative!
Taking a night off could entail making a fire and telling stories enjoying a meal, no excuses over time you adjust to different things.
