Look Up! 2019 – (PowerHouseCreatives Contest) – Class of 2019
Look Up! 2019
For this week’s contest, @zord189 assigned we contestants to pick three photos we’ve taken in 2019; a reflection on our year and sort of how a yearbook features certain photos taken through the school year.
Unfortunately, I personally didn’t take a lot of photos in 2019 but I did take more than three, so I’m picking from my very limited repertoire of 2019 photos.
I’m a morning person and have been pretty much since my time in the army. I feed neighborhood crows in my backyard every morning, and there are many days when I step outside pre-dawn and I’m amazed at how the sky looks, so I go back inside to grab my camera to take a few shots.
I never really intended to show these anywhere and the camera’s not the best, but here’s photo one:
I took this one pre-dawn, and the metadata shows the time being 8:37 A.M. on December 8th which I thought was odd, because it’s never still pre-dawn here at 8:37 A.M. I found that the time on the camera is set an hour and a half ahead of the current time, so the photo was actually taken at 7:07 A.M.
I call it a popcorn sky for obvious reasons. The photo looks pretty nice, but actually seeing the sky was so much more thrilling.
My second photo is also a sky photo, and this one I think, looks sort of like a red northern lights kind of display, like a red Aurora Borealis. Again, I just took this to remember the look of the sky that morning.
It says it was taken on September 5th at 7:30 A.M., so subtracting the daylight saving time hour and also the errant, unexplained half-hour, the photo was actually shot at 7:00 A.M. again, pre-dawn.
Finally we come to the last photo for my class of 2019 contest entry, and so for a change I'll show you something other than a "sky" photo. This one was taken March 23rd, 2019 at 8:13 A.M. Doing the same calculations to correct the camera's time, it would actually have been taken at 7:43 A.M.
I remember that I took this photo because of the steam rising from the water in this water way that runs through my neighborhood, near the end of March! This seemed insane to me, as I live pretty close to as far south as one can go and still be on American soil, and it's never been that cold at the end of March the 39 years I've lived here. That's why I took the picture.
It got even more crazy though! It stayed unseasonably cold all the way through to mid June! I saved literally a TON of money not having to run A/C or heat. Now, it's gotten really chilly in early November which is also odd, and has stayed pretty cool through to today, so I am once again saving big on my electric bills. I don't know what's happening, but I like it!
Anyway this is my entry to the PHC contest. ALL photos in this post are mine.

Mist over the water a brilliant photographic reminder to the unusual weather we are experiencing around the world.
Wind swept early morning cloud casting red across the sky another lovely photo, being out early feeding the birds and enjoying the quiet before everyone starts their day is always rewarding!
I can't get over the weather patterns were seeing now. All I know is I'm saving lots of money. My power company is trying to get me to sign up for their scam to pay a set amount every month, saying I would save money. I did the calculations based on the past year and if this year is as good or better, I will save more money just by paying the regular billing amounts!
Amazing how quick they are to offer so called "specials" when things don't go their way, stick with what you feel will benefit you more in the long run.Our billing swings on a pendulum one never knows what charges will be from one month to the next.
I love the photos you shared. They're all lovely 😊😊

Thank you! I really need to spend more time this year to getting some nice shots. I neglected doing that this past year.
