Portfolio: 'Shadowology', Vincent Bal's illustrations
Vincent Bal is proof that creativity and ingenuity are more important than technique, and it is not that Bal's work lacks it, but that the simplicity of resources he uses in his work is to attract attention. This Belgian-born filmmaker and illustrator already has quite a few works in his collection and prints can be purchased from him at Etsy.
Shadowology, the name by which he named this collection of illustrations, fortuitously emerged one day in May 2016, when Bal was working on a film script. While sitting at his desk, he noticed that the shadow of a teacup looked like a little elephant, so he filled in the picture with his pen and then uploaded the picture to Instagram.
The positive reaction of his followers was so great that he decided to make other similar drawings and the rest is history.
You can see more of his work as an illustrator on his account at Instagram, from which I share a selection of his illustrations that I liked the most.
