Greetings my friends!

My last visit to visit my grandson was a cold one! The air was so dry by the time I left my skin was crying for moisture!

Since that time I have been working on creating nourishing skin solutions for my family to use during the cold and dry winter months. My grandson is still in diapers and diaper cream is a staple in the house! Wearing diapers his little bum can certainly get chaffed pretty easily and after reading the list of ingredients on the diaper cream I felt certain I could come up with a more natural bum cream! At long last I think I have something to share with you.

This special crème…

contains just 6 ingredients; all working to protect baby’s tender skin!
DSC_0002 (2).jpg

  • Shea Butter has been around for centuries! It’s known for its high fat content and although Shea is a tree nut it is extremely low in proteins known to cause allergies. Shea butter’s soothing, creamy consistency and anti-inflammatory properties help hold moisture in the skin and help prevent dryness.

  • Coconut Oil has amazing antimicrobial qualities! In other words, this natural oil helps prevent the growth of many harmful microorganisms on your skin! The high lauric acid content in Coconut oil has been found to kill off many harmful skin bacteria and fungi.

  • Frankincense Oil not only helps prevent those unwanted early signs of aging in our skin, it also holds antiseptic and healing qualities. Frankincense is a wonderful protection against infection, a perfect aid with diaper rash!

  • Eucalyptus Oil not only smells amazing it has amazing anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties as well. Commonly used to treat wounds, infections, aches and pains eucalyptus is quite versatile oil.

  • Zinc Oxide! Most of us associate zinc with sunscreens but zinc is beneficial in other areas! Zinc Oxide has been used for many years in wound and burn care. Described in ancient Indian writings around 500 bc natural skin salves containing zinc oxide were called Pushpanjan. Zinc oxide helps to prevent inflammation and rashes, something quite commonly found with babies in diapers!

All of these amazing ingredients when combined will create a healthy moisturizing and inflammatory bum crème!

Birdsong Bum Balm!

All you need

  • Organic Shea Butter (1/4 cup)
  • Organic Unrefined Coconut Oil (1/4 cup)
  • Frankincense Oil (20 drops)
  • Eucalyptus Oil (20 drops)
  • Zinc Oxide Powder (2 tbsp.)
  • Emulsifying Wax (1 tbsp.)

Note: Zinc oxide powder can be toxic if inhaled! Be mindful when mixing!

Shea Butter…

may tend to be hard so you’ll want to soften (not completely melt) the butter over a double boiler before you begin! Include the emulsifying wax with the shea allowing the wax to melt. Add the balance of ingredients layering the zinc oxide powder between the shea and coconut butter to control the powder!

Grab your stick blender…

or mixer and blend well.

Remember: don't inhale the zinc powder while blending!

New or recycled sterilized glass jars are best! Just distribute the mixture evenly, filling the jars. That’s it! So easy, right? Cover and refrigerate for about 30 minutes or until firm. I prefer to keep the balm at room temperature; it’s creamy and spreads beautifully!

Ingredients listed…

Oh very nice!! Let there be more happy babies with smooth, yummy bottoms. :) Nice combination of ingredients. My biz also makes a baby balm - we use a combination of vetiver essential oil, moringa oil and pure vitamin E in a rice oil-coconut-beeswax base.

Your grandson is one very lucky boy!!

Thank you @artemislives!!! I know you have wonderful products as well. So glad to hear from you. Hope all is well with you and your daughter. I am really enjoying this, creating healthy products for the family. Love your moringa oil addition, great idea! Moringa has so many amazing health benefits. I'll have to look into the vetiver essential oil, I'm not familiar with that one.
