Like every year, this year too, October 16 is being celebrated worldwide as World Food Day. On 16 October 1945, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), one of the United Nations agencies, was established. Man's main basic need is his food. October 16 is observed as World Food Day every year to draw the world's attention to the importance of food, its scope, limitations, etc., in the question of the existence of mankind. This day is celebrated with different themes in different years. This year, the theme of World Food Day 2019 is ‘Our Actions are our Future’. Healthy diets for a # Zero Hunger world The Bengali meaning of the proverb has been determined ‘Our work is our future, nutritious food will be the desired hunger-free world’. Because ‘our actions are our future so unmistakable. Just as the karma of an individual's life greatly affects the future of his life, so the collective karma of mankind also points to his future path. As global civilization continues to evolve to make life a little better or more comfortable as a result of the evolution of human civilization, the various effects of global warming and climate change are now being felt everywhere. As a result, many thinkers and researchers are wondering about the future of this planet. There are credible reasons why this fear of the future is the result of the overall actions of mankind.

The other part of the theme of World Food Day 2019 is 'Nutritious food will be the desired hunger-free world' or Zero Hunger world. This is also true in the reality of time. What a person eats is his food to provide the necessary nutrients and replenishment of the body. There are also food categories according to the nutrients. But to build a world free of hunger, we need to focus on two things. Firstly, ensuring the availability of nutritious food. Secondly, ensuring affordable food for all the people. Professor Amartya Sen, a Nobel laureate economist, has said that adequate food alone cannot make a country or a nation hungry without ensuring access to that food for all people. Saying and hearing the two words 'world without hunger' evokes endless peace in the heart but the reality is far away. There are still many ethnic groups in many countries of the world who are living in extreme poverty or below the poverty line, their normal survival is not guaranteed, nutritious food is a luxury dream. International organizations such as FAO, IFAD, WFP, IFPR, etc. are working on global food. In addition to their own action plans, these organizations are contributing to poverty alleviation by supporting agricultural and food-related projects or programs formulated by the governments of different countries, resulting in a reduction in poverty rates in many countries around the world.

If we review the picture of poverty alleviation in our beloved Bangladesh, we see a unique success story. The rate at which our poverty has been reduced in less than a decade and a half is exemplary for many countries. According to the latest BBS data, the poverty rate in Bangladesh has come down to 21.6% by 2016 from 40% in 2005 and 24.3% in 2016. On the other hand, the rate of extreme poverty has come down to 11.3% in 2016 which was 25.1% in 2005 and 12.9% in 2016. If we talk about agriculture, there is another success story. In the last one decade, unprecedented development has taken place in all sectors of agriculture - crops, fisheries and livestock. On December 10, 2016, the FAO's Bangladesh office predicted that Bangladesh would surpass all past records in rice production in the 2018-19 fiscal year. The forecast was correct, DAE sources said, adding that crop production in the crop sector alone is now over 40 million tonnes, summer and winter vegetables production is over 1.5 million tonnes, domestic low-end and exotic fruits adapted here are now over 10 million tonnes. The production of fruits and vegetables has not only increased but also diversified. That is why a variety of vegetables and fruits can be seen in the country's market all the time.
