Well, I decided to write about the very topic, “The journey begins in the mind.” Although it's not necessary that everyone writes on this phrase, but I found this phrase quite intriguing, and instantly, a lot of thoughts came to my mind which I began to write down, and then just kept on writing. I hope you will like my effort. 🙂

The journey of change begins in the mind. Before any step is embarked upon, there has to be the leap of faith in the mind that it can indeed be different. Thus, the way is lit only as our minds open to new ideas, new perspectives, and new goals.

Every great endeavor begins with one thought—a spark of inspiration leading to a clear vision of what could be. The Wright brothers had to conceive manned flight before the first airplane could be built. Albert Einstein had to visualize the fabric of space-time before he could develop the theory of relativity. Steve Jobs had to imagine the possibility of a computer in every home before he could launch Apple. Every innovation and new advancement is forethought by a pure act of imagination.

Look at Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and imagine his imagination of a separate Pakistan for Muslims, which later became a reality through his fiery leadership. Or Rosa Parks with an idea about keeping her seat on the bus lighted the way for a movement for civil rights. The journey from thought to reality may be an exceedingly long one, but it categorically cannot take place without the power of mental conception lighting the way.

Once the mind has given birth to a new idea or dream, the journey now is from the abstract to the concrete. Mental images and possibilities take on substance with preparation, research, and planning. A vague desire to help people becomes earning a medical degree and then opening a practice devoted to patients. The conviction that diseases can be cured sparks hundreds of scientists to search tirelessly for breakthrough treatments. Thoughts become plans, plans become actions, actions become outcomes.

But the mind cannot be fully responsible for where the journey gets you. Reaching our goals calls for vision, commitment, effort, and fortitude. Expect obstacles and missteps on the way; they are inevitable. Every twist and turn warrants redoubling your commitment. Whenever courage seems to fail, look back and remember why you started. When determination falters, look back to recall why you started. Let your inspiration reignite your will to keep moving forward. Learn from failures and find alternative routes to your aims. With focus, drive, and an openness to evolve your approach, you can overcome hurdles that once seemed impossible to clear.

Arrival at one’s destination is hardly the end of the road. One has to celebrate the achievements but not for so long as to overstay their welcome. There is always a new journey to embark upon, a new mountain to climb, a new opportunity to grow. The first trip where your mind is open and curious will be able to lead to so many other trips. Learn, expand, and enjoy the process; help others along the way. You may not call all the twists and turns, but the vision you have of the kind of life you want to live is under your control.

No journey unfolds exactly as we imagine. But if we are committed to pursuing our highest aims with integrity and an open heart, we empower ourselves to live with purpose. Though the path may be long and difficult, taking the first step is as simple as changing our perspective and believing that the journey begins in the mind.
