Alright, on this occasion I want to participate in the Steemit Engagement Challenge Contest 1 | I take care of the planet and you. This article can also be a learning material for novice farmers who want to broaden their horizons in rice farming activities.

I am interested in writing down the steps I take to care for the rice plant as a form of my concern for the earth and support content with the #learnwithsteem program initiated by the steemit team @steemitblog.

1.Opener

Rice plants can be said to be the easiest plant to grow and the maintenance process is also not too difficult, therefore I prefer rice planting activities as an important part of caring for the earth.

However, in carrying out rice planting business activities, we need to be more careful and alert to pest attacks in order to produce abundant harvests. Farmers can be said to be successful in rice planting activities if they are able to control pest attacks, there have been many bitter experiences of rice farmers who have suffered losses due to failing to control pests, so don't underestimate pests, friend.

The next important factor for rice plants is intensive care during the growing period, because at this time rice requires more nutrients to continue to grow and develop.

From the brief description above, there are two main keywords that are important factors for the success of rice planting business activities:

2.Pest Control

What are pests? Pests are types of animals that can harm and can damage rice plants, in general the problems often faced by farmers are rats, snails, stem borer caterpillars, weeds and various diseases that can damage other crops.

Pest control is quite important, when the age of rice is in its growth period of 1 to 40 days, the pests that often interfere are rats and snails.

Rats are the most annoying pests, rats can damage crops from the first planting to the end of the harvest. While golden snails can easily damage rice plants by eating young rice stalks, but when the rice stalks get bigger and older, golden snails are not a problem for rice plants because they already have strong stems.

Furthermore weeds and stem borer caterpillars, weeds are pests that can interfere with rice growth because they absorb more fertilizer substances so that rice will not grow.

While the stem borer caterpillars are on the leaf stems and eat them slowly until there is nothing left. The danger of this leaf caterpillar can be present at any time during the growth period, fertilization period, and harvest period.

Why is pest control so important? The better the pest control, the better the rice growth process, good growth will give abundant yields.

2.Growth Period

As I explained in the explanation above, that the growth age of rice plants is 1 to 40 days, at this time rice is susceptible to pests and diseases.

At this time the rice must be treated intensively, spraying, fertilizing at the right time and at the right dose. For fertilizer needs during growth, more nitrogen (urea fertilizer) is needed than phosphorus and potassium.

Period for rice to bear fruit, spraying must be done to avoid pests which are very dangerous because they can attack rice plants at any time. If at the period for rice to bear fruit the rice plant is attacked by caterpillars, it is certain that the farmers will experience crop failure. The best step is to spray before the rice plants are attacked by caterpillars.
