This is an interesting topic to discuss, especially in most judiciary systems now in the world. International human rights groups are working hard to see the government abolish the death row penalty in courtrooms.

What do you think about the death penalty, do you agree or disagree? Explain why?

Well, there are two ways to look at the death penalty. The death penalty is a thing of the old and was a means used in many communities to filter the good from the bad. So we can look at the death penalty in the old days and also look at it in recent times. In the old, it was executed by hanging or shooting, but today some cases by electrocution and injections.

In the old days, no one had the voice to argue the decision of the king and royal family when passing on such judgments. Today, human rights have popped up after the first world war. They have reasoned with the claim that human life needs to be valuable. Well, that is correct too, but then again. Why was the death penalty implemented?

The death penalty was a solution to a problem then, how you look at it depends on you. Why do I say it was a solution to a problem? It was meant to caution people who committed abominable crimes and at the same time scared others from committing such crimes.

But statistics have come to show that many innocent people were executed by the death penalty. For this reason, human rights groups started complaining about the justice system that was still using the death penalty. They went ahead to call the attention of countries that the death penalty is incompatible with human rights and human dignity. Given that, the right to life is the most basic human right. Implementing the death penalty violated one of the basic human rights.

Do I agree, I strongly disagree with the execution of the death penalty. People are influenced by the community where they come from, and so we have a bad seed. We all contributed to having that bad seed. Life can not be given to someone, so it makes no sense to take it from another. And again, the possibility of executing innocent people. It is more reason to abolish the death penalty.

Is this type of penalty part of the law in your country? Do you think it should be implemented?

Yeah, Cameroon still has the death penalty in the law. The death penalty is capital punishment in my country Cameroon. In my country, for any such sentence to take place. It must be authorized by the President to either sign to pardon or sign for the act to be executed. But I think I've been soft now, as you hear of life in prison. In most cases, life in prison was indirectly sentenced to death.

Well, I think it will not be implemented. Giving an individual 40 years old and 50 years in imprisonment, is not different from the death penalty. So It is preferable to cut another human's life short. The individual could have a chance to change another person's life.

Do you know of any particular case of the death penalty in your country or any other country? Can you share it?

The last official case happened in 1984, after a failed coup d'état by 47 people who were found guilty and shot to death. Since then I have not heard of any official cases again in my country. What you can hear in the courthouse is “life imprison”. I happened to carry a project in the prison yard and came across a number of them. So when the court gives you the death penalty, it indirectly means life imprisonment.

To say Cameroon has abolished the death penalty is far from reality. We might not have any official case, but only the President can authorize the execution of a death penalty as stipulated by Article 22 of the 67th Act in the penal code.

I invite @yenny47 and @princa to take part

Hola @fombae
SALUDOS.

Thanks, @josevas217 for your time in reviewing my entry.

La pena de muerte es un tema complejo que genera opiniones diferentes, existe mucho gobiernos que practica está ley pero muchas veces condenan a personas inocentes

@yenny47, you perfectly right. Human Rights groups are trying to see if governments can abolished the death penalty.
I think the idea of life imprisonment is to make sure an innocent person is not sentenced to death. During this period in my country, you can still appeal for the case to be relook into.
You never know, the accused or condemned could be in innocent and the judgment is change. Most cases in my country have succeeded in changing the outcome and having a more reduce and relax judgment.

hello comrade @fombae, it is true that today the death penalty is still legal in some countries, such is the case of your country Cameroon, of course I share your opinion on the death penalty, before this was seen in the form of hanging or beheading, stronger and cruder methods for a spectator, and nowadays there is lethal injection, gas chamber or electrocution. Your opinion is very important and respectable, greetings and good wishes in the challenge for you, friend.

Thanks @rdp89, given that we can't give life, and everyone has the right to live. The death penalty is not a better option.

De nada amigo @fombae es grato lo que nos comparte sobre el reto. Saludo y muchas bendiciones.

It's your own decision that you disagree with death penalty. But I just want to ask you a simple question here;
If xyz killed abc and abc is poor and hard worker, working for his family on daily basis and get paid (5 USD) a day. xyz asked him to give all of today's money or die, abc was not able to give the money to xyz, because his kids were demanding food from two days. So he denied and xyz killed him... What we have to do now? We have proofs, but as of so called life value we can't let xyz alive, because there is surely a chance of redoing the crime again by xyz with any other abc.
So I don't ask you to agree stay disagreed but think about the short story.

It is crucial to ensure that any punishment, including the death penalty, is fair, just, and based on evidence. The legal system must be rigorous in its application of the death penalty and ensure that there are no mistakes or errors that could lead to the wrongful execution of an innocent person.

@growwithme, I mention that the death penalty is incompatible with human rights and human dignity which is a fundamental basic human right. Right to life in particular is an aspect for us to join human rights in promoting.

Governments are doing all they can to promote human rights, so it but normal to respect all. Capital punishment for more than 25 years can be a better replacement for the death penalty. For now, that is happening in my country, I have not heard of any official death penalty.

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.
