Steemit Engagement Challenge Season5 Week2 : My medical experiences
Greetings, esteemed members and friends of the Colombia original community. It is another week of the challenge and I am privileged to participate in this week’s challenge about our medical experiences.
In life, one must face some challenges that warrant medical attention. I have faced such bad moments and some of which I seek medical attention. There were bad moments I faced though I thank God I am still alive today. I will share more of my experiences following the guidelines below.
Growing up as a kid, I never faced any medical issues that needed special treatment until when I was 16. I felt sick and I hated the hospital environment because the smell of drugs was not friendly to me.
The worst medical instrument I hate with a passion is the syringe 💉. Unfortunately for me at 16, I felt sick and the doctor prescribed some injections for me to take. I had to take 1 after 2 days before I take another dose. My mother and some nurses had to hold me firm on the bed before the injection was administered.
The doctor keeps reminding me to relax so that the syringe will not break up while in my flesh. After the injection, I could barely see and I was asked to sleep for about 2 hours before my body was back to normal. From that experience, I hate syringes.
Another medical instrument I am afraid of is a surgical instrument. Oooh my goodness, just looking at the surgical box is a nightmare.
I do not think I am afraid of any specialist because they know exactly what your medical needs are. Those I am not comfortable with within the medical setup are general practitioners.
I once had an experience with a general practitioner which made me afraid of their medical judgment. My daughter was once sick when she was 9 months old. We are in a digital age and most often I research some symptoms before seeking medical attention.
When I took her to the hospital, she had a high temperature and lost her appetite but she was active. I was sent to a general practitioner to check her up. She wrote a series of lab tests I should conduct even a blood group test even though I told her my daughter’s blood group.
The type of tests she asked me to conduct was not what I was expecting and I asked her to refer me to a pediatrician. She refused and insisted I should do the tests. I went to the lab though still not satisfied but wanted to know how much all the tests about 9 in number will cost. The lab technician took my book and calculated and behold the amount was a story for another day.
I took my consultation booklet from the lab technician and started searching for a pediatrician. When I got to the pediatrician, he checked my daughter and when he saw the number of tests the general practitioner wrote, he was surprised and asked me who wrote all these tests.
From that experience, I am not friendly with general practitioners. I always seek specialist attention whenever I have any medical issues.
One of my funny medical experiences was when I was 16 years old. I was sick and at that age, I hated medications. As I earlier said, I hated the hospital environment due to the unpleasant smell of drugs.
My two other sisters were equally sick and my mother had to take all of us to the hospital. I blatantly refused and requested my mother should buy me drugs to take at home.
I intended that when I have the drugs I can easily develop a strategy to take the medicines without anyone knowing what was happening. I was not eating food but was drinking a lot of water. I decided to pour all the drugs into a container of water and keep to be drinking. I thought melting the drugs in much quantity of water will reduce the bitter taste and smell.
After mixing up all my drugs in a container of water, I tasted the water and the smell and bitter taste were worst. I took the water and emptied it all as waste.
Each time when I was asked to take my drugs, I will rush to take an empty pack of the drugs pretended as if I have the drugs in my palms, drank water, and pretended I have taken my medications. Nobody knew what was happening except me 😠😠.
When the sickness was not improving, I told my mom that my body is resistant to the drugs and that I needed herbs to get well. She harvested some herbs boiled and I drank and was better.
It was indeed a funny scenario and I wish my kids should never practice that.
During my childhood, I never experienced any medical trauma because I never experienced any serious medical issues.
The only serious illness I have experienced in life was when I was pregnant and was diagnosed with kidney stones. It was my first time hearing about such an illness and I was afraid.
When I was pregnant, the gynecologist asked me to drink at least 3 liters of water a day. I did not take it seriously because I always feel heavy when I consume much water. Also, frequent urination after consuming much water made me not consume much water.
Little did I know that the water was for my good to help keep my kidneys clean. I started feeling serious pains in the left flank of my back. I was diagnosed with kidney stones and admitted to the hospital for over a week.
From that experience, I learned to always follow the doctor’s instructions.
In conclusion, my medical experiences have taught me a lesson to always take medical instructions seriously. I will like @fenwilinda, @mehakbhatti, and sureway044 to share their medical experiences with us.
Thanks @chant for inviting me yes of course.I will share some of my experience with you.
Anxiously awaiting your entry🤗🤗.
❤️☺️
You had to live with syringes since you were very young, that's why you are afraid, because those needles always generate fear, even if they are necessary, as well as the surgical material.
What a bad experience you had with the general practitioner, surely that doctor wanted to be sure that your daughter was fine and that's why he sent extra tests, the ones he thought were necessary. But, if you know which specialist to see, it is very good to be able to go directly to one of them.
The experience of the medications is quite interesting, that water with all the pills must have tasted very bad hehehehe, what a funny and worrying situation, because you were not getting better, good thing that happened and now you are well and also good that you learned with the kidney stones, that we must follow the doctor's recommendations.
Thank you very much for sharing your medical experiences @chant.

Thank you for the review. Through my experiences I learned to always take doctors recommendations serious.
I also rarely get sick. And when I was sick, I was very reluctant to go to the hospital. My biggest fear is needles too. Good luck for the contest dear
🥰🥰🥰
Needles are nobody’s friend 😄😃😀
Thank you for the invite,I'll sure share mine😊.
Syringes are nobody's friends😂, only the thought of it sometimes makes you feel pain even before it enters your skin🤦
I think to wipe out that thought, we need to be brave enough to overcome but my fear is some medical practitioners do it in an unprofessional way. Thank you for accepting to share your thoughts with us.
