The god's are not to be blame

Written By: Ola Rotimi
The god's are not to be blame is a novel written by Ola Rotimi in they year 1968. This is a story about a young man named Odewale. His fate was determined by the god's at his birth.

Odewale was the first child of the king, as tradition will have it, the first born male child of the king must be presented to the god's for protection and guidance since he is the err to the throne.

The case of Odewale was quite a disturbing one because the king and his wife have waited for a child for so many years and when the child Odewale finally came and was presented to the god's, the god's labelled him an evil child. They chief priests as at that time said and I quote "this child will kill his father and marry his mother". They only remedy to these scenario is to kill the child.

In pains, the king handed the child over to his guards to kill in the evil forest. When they guards took the child to they evil forest they felt pity for him and decided to abandon him there saying there is no need of killing him with a sword since he will eventually die of hunger. They left the child in the evil forest and came back.

A hunter saw the child crying in the evil forest and picked him up, took him home and trained him untill he came of age. Odewale was trained as a hunter strong and fearless. Because of the strength of Odewale both men and spirit where scared of him.

After the death of the hunter who trained him, Odewale flee to another village where he settled down. One day, Odewale was working on a piece of land, when a king and his guards came in and said that the land in question belongs to them. And at the course of the arguments they all draw a sword to fight, Odewale who is too strong killed the king (his father) and his guards but one of they guard was able to escape.

He ran back home and told the people that they were attacked by armed robbers. He said these because he was ashamed to tell they people that only one person killed they king and they other guards.

The kingdom was left without a king and they where been traitened by their neighbouring kingdom. Odewale after the incident flee and found him self in that very village. As strong as he was he was able to mobilize they youth and the went and fought and conquer their enemies. As it is the custom of their people, who ever will become the king will have to marry the already existing queen.

In that way, Odewale was joined together in marriage with his mother (unknowingly to him) the gave birth to some number of children there after.

Years later different calamities began happening in the land, and when the god's was consulted he told them that something very bad has happened in the land. A man is the cause of all the calamities. They king on hearing these said who is that man? I will pluck his eyes and send him to the evil forest.

After a long research and investigation, they king final discovered that he is they calamities that has happened to the people. Been a man of his own words, he pluck out his eyes and took his children along with him to the evil forest.
