Movie Talk - Daylight (1996)

Hello Writing & Reviews community. I am William8Wayward, and this is my first post, a movie review, in this community.

I do apologize that I do not have an image from the movie itself, but I have not been able to track down good info on where to get images and how to cite them. If anyone can help me with this, it would be really nice of you to do so.

I look forward to writing more movie reviews in the coming days. Thank you so much for reading. The movie I'm talking about today is Daylight (1996), an American movie starring Sylvester Stallone.

Daylight is the story of a group of people who get trapped in the underground tunnel between New York and New Jersey. It is their story, and that of the man who goes down to attempt a rescue. This man is played by Sylvester Stallone.

The collapse happens when a reckless car thief collides with a couple of transport trucks hauling toxic chemicals. The barrels ignite upon impact.

The element of fire figures prominently in this 1996 movie directed by Rob Cohen. The cinematography does not dwell on or really marvel over the flames, like what you might see in a Terence Malick movie, but there are images of infernos that have awesome beauty nonetheless.

There is not only literal fire and explosions but also a lot of emotional heat between characters. One unfaithful-husband-come-home doesn't know how to reintegrate and heal his family, so conflict arises. A tunnel security officer has an amorous relationship with a dispatch officer. His promise to return her gold bracelet grows in significance as the movie progresses.

About halfway into the movie, water from a nearby river starts pouring in from above. Now the survivors have to contend with not only the heat of the flames and the noxious gases, but the threat of hypothermia too.

This is a story that exposes the fragility of human life amidst vast unfeeling mechanical edifices and the elements unleashed.

It is no surprise that Stallone stars as the hero, the lone rescuer. He is an iconic image of strength, inner and outer, and toughness.

Altogether the movie is good for what it is--a 90s Hollywood survival thriller with human elements.

I recommend it, if not strongly recommend.
