📚 New contest: Book Review : The Village By The Sea - The Only English Novel I Studied

Sometimes we gotta do Things We don't Like. We gotta do them for Greater Good. I did English Literature as a Subject For My Advanced Level. There was a lot of Reading. And there was a book to study too. I'm not a fan of reading But I kinda Love the Story.

That book is non of others but "The Village By The Sea". It was written by famous Indian writer, "Anita Desai". Actually She won "Guardian Children's Fictional Prize" for this Masterpiece. as I Gave this book to One Of my sisters, I don't have this book with me..

Old Version Of The Book

Talking about the story, the Novel's action takes place in a Fishing Village near the Sea named Thul. And the Story goes around a Poor Family living in it. There are Four Children in this family. Hari and Lila are the Older ones. Bela and Kamal are the Younger ones. They have their Parents. But they are not fit to their Job. Their mother is ill Almost through the story and Father is a Drunkard who Drinks Toddy everyday without Supporting Family.

So, this elder Siblings, Hari and Lila Had to play the role Parents in this Family. Hari had to be the Bread-Winner for the family while Lila is Taking care of their Mother and Other things at home.

Hari Understands that Nothing won't go well if he Stays at this Village. So, Hari goes to Bombay Searching for a Silver Lining. In the Interim, Mr de Silva who is a Wealthy Man from Thul helps Lila and her mother's Situation.

Hari almost gets lost in Bombay. But he Meets a Friend and he leads Hari to Mr Panwallah. He is a Watchmaker. He helps this Lost Boy and Becomes some kind of Second Father for Hari. It's kinda feeling Hari missed for Years.

Mr Panwallah teaches what he knows in Watchmaking. And Hari learns them well. He earns quiet a bit from it. He didn't Forget his family. Whenever he gets a chance, he visits Home. He won't Forget to bring Candy for his Little Sisters. With the Help of de Silva family, mother Recovers From Illness. Seeing what Hari does for his Family, his Father quits Drinking and Becomes Sober.

Through out this story, Character building of Hari is Highlighted. See how this little boy Affect positively on his Family. He converted Poverty into Prosperity. He didn't Chase something he can't Achieve. He didn't follow Myths. He followed the right path. He walked down that road with Confidence. It's not his Fault that he born with Poverty. He had big Dreams and Visions. It always made a Positive Mindset and "Can do" attitude in him.

I think Students in early Teenage really need to read books like this rather than reading Fantasies. And it's not too late if you Haven't read this book. So, try it. You won't Regret it.
