Lyrics
stanza 1
She was driving last Friday on her way to Cincinnati
On a snow white Christmas Eve
Going home to see her mama and her daddy
With the baby in the backseat
Fifty miles to go, and she was running low on faith and gasoline
It'd been a long, hard year
She had a lot on her mind, and she didn't pay attention
She was going way too fast
Before she knew it
She was spinning on a thin black sheet of glass
She saw both their lives flash before her eyes
She didn't even have time to cry
She was so scared
She threw her hands up in the air
Chorus
"Jesus, take the wheel
Take it from my hands
'Cause I can't do this on my own
I'm letting go
So give me one more chance
And save me from this road I'm on
Jesus, take the wheel"
stanza 2
It was still getting colder when she made it to the shoulder
And the car came to a stop
She cried when she saw that baby in the backseat
Sleeping like a rock
And for the first time in a long time
She bowed her head to pray
She said, "I'm sorry for the way
I've been living my life
I know I've got to change
So from now on, tonight"
chorus
"Jesus, take the wheel
Take it from my hands
'Cause I can't do this on my own
I'm letting go
So give me one more chance
And save me from this road I'm on"
Oh, Jesus, take the wheel
Vamp
Oh, I'm letting go
So give me one more chance
Save me from this road I'm on
From this road I'm on
Jesus, take the wheel
Oh, take it, take it from me
Oh, whoa, ooh
This song by Underwood as been my best song so far and each time I sing it I feel my self making up with God, with the mindset that I cannot do anything with my maker God.
THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG
She took off for a journey with her little baby in the back sit to see her parents, she had a lot in her mind so she forgot to pray and to check her fuel tank, her mind was progressing lots and lots of things about how the year has been so she didn't pay attention to anything, before she realize she was on the road driving, both their lives was in danger, she saw the danger, she couldn't cry or do anything at all at that point in time so she just let go the wheel cry up to God to take over the wheel from her that she can't rescue herself and wishes God to save her and her baby. God intervened, took over the wheel from her and wen she turned she saw the baby sleeping comfortably in the back sit, she was shocked, she cry out to God and pleaded for forgiveness.
How I feel listening to this song
I have had similar experience and when I first heard this song I went Straight to my Google browser and downloaded it. No man can make it without God. This song also reminded me of Jesus telling His disciples to deny themselves, take up their cross and follow Him if they want to be His disciples truly and in the message Bible it say thus:
Then Jesus went to work on his disciples. "Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You're not in the driver's seat; I am. Don't run from suffering; embrace it. Follow me and I'll show you how. (Matthew 16:24)
When I get to any cross road in my life, I sing this song and let myself go for Jesus to lead, when life posses it's challenges my way, I sing this song and let go myself and call on Jesus to take it from me and it has been working out for me.
I can remember the day I went to exams hall late, preparing for a course I wasn't writing that morning and I just realized it in the exams hall, no one told me about it not even my friends, I stayed in exams hall with no hope on what to write, no one to call out to, then I remember God and I told Him to take the pen from me and write and to be sincere, He did and I passed with flying colors.
When Jesus takes the wheel of one's life everything and anything is possible.
