I thought this was an interesting post! I don't entirely agree with the final conclusion, but there's lot's of food for thought. As a man myself I would argue that there is little escape from manliness as a man. The man described chose precisely the least macho, most peaceful mode of living, but even then could only choose it out of his machisma. I suppose i would tend to generalise this to a 'will to power' though.
