En 1996, yo era un capitán de Caballería y Blindados que por cosas del destino, obtuvo una beca para ir a realizar el Curso Avanzado para Oficiales de Blindados en la Escuela de Blindados adscrita al US Armor Center, organización perteneciente al Ejército de los Estados Unidos, para ese momento localizada en Fort Knox, Kentucky.

Durante los primeros días, mientras luchaba por acostumbrarme a un idioma que no era mi idioma nativo, además de leer los libros que me asignaron en el curso (que no fueron pocos precisamente) durante los fines de semana libres salía a conversar con todo aquel que aceptara conversar conmigo, para "soltar la lengua": iba a centros comerciales, bombas de gasolina, restaurantes y especialmente, iba a un negocio, a quienes los soldados llamaban "El mini mall" cercano a mi habitación, donde vendían comida, bebidas, había un teléfono público, vendían accesorios militares y libros.

Allí revisando, vi un pequeño libro con lo que parecía ser un caballo en la portada: tomé un ejemplar y ví en la portada lo que parecía ser el detalle de una estatua ecuestre y rampante, donde el hocico y los ojos de la bestia demostraban la tensión de la rienda: después de ver esa expresión del caballo me encuentro con las palabras "warfighting" y "marines". Salí con una pizza congelada, café, unos chocolates y el libro en la bolsa.

Este es un libro útil para el combate, para los negocios y para la vida: enseña a luchar de forma inteligente en todos esos espacios. Para sacarle provecho en los tres campos simplemente cambie las palabras correspondientes y tendrá lo que necesita: "comandante" por "gerente" o por "usted" ; "guerra" por "trabajo", "oficina" o "vida" y obtendrá guías para enfrentar situaciones donde existe un choque de voluntades. "La naturaleza de la guerra", "la teoría de la guerra", "perparación para la guerra" y "la conducta en la guerra", son los capítulos que definen formas de ser y formas de proceder y que en cierta forma describen la cultura de una de las organizaciones militares más reconocidas y prestigiosas del planeta.

De este libro extraje cantidad enorme de frases, ideas y elementos cuando me tocó impartir clases de táctica en todos los lugares donde fui asignado a impartirlas: también saqué provecho de muchos pasajes para reflexionar y diseñar algunos de los modelos de negocio que me han pedido en mis trabajos y también he recordado mucho de su contenido en momentos difíciles y conflictivos en mi vida.

Ya ha pasado mucho tiempo y otros libros han pasado por mis manos, con contenidos brillantes y geniales que me han emocionado mucho. Mi vida ha cambiado de espacio, aunque no es más tranquila que mi vida de soldado: inclusive es agobiante en muchos momentos; pero a veces paso por mis libros y me topo con ese hocico, las venas tensas y el ojo de la bestia en actitud rampante y algo me dice dentro: ¿Qué esperas, coronel? ¡A la carga!

One day, whiel I was just watching, I saw a small book with what appeared to be a horse on the cover: I took a copy and I saw on its cover the detail of what appeared to be an equestrian and rampant statue , where the muzzle and the eyes of the beast showed the tension of the rein: after seeing that expression of the horse I come across the words "warfighting" and "marines". I came out with a frozen pizza, coffee, some chocolates, and the book in the bag.

This is a useful book for combat, for business and for life: it teaches how to fight smart in all those spaces. To take advantage of all three fields, simply change the corresponding words and you will have what you need: "commander" for "manager" or for "you"; "war" for "work", "office" or "life", and you will get guides to face situations where there is a clash of wills. "The nature of war", "the theory of war", "preparation for war" and "conduct in war", are the chapters that define ways of being and ways of proceeding and that in a certain way describe the culture of one of the most recognized and prestigious military organizations on the planet.

From this book I extracted a huge amount of phrases, ideas and elements when I had to teach tactics classes in all the places where I was assigned to teach them: I also took advantage of many passages to reflect and design some of the business models that have been asked of me in my work and I have also remembered much of its content in difficult and conflictive moments in my life.

A long time has passed and other books have passed through my hands, with brilliant and great contents that have excited me a lot. My life has changed space, although it is not more peaceful than my life as a soldier: it is even overwhelming in many moments; But sometimes I go through my books and come across that snout, the tense veins and the eye of the beast in a rampant attitude and something inside says to me: What are you waiting for, Colonel? On Charge!
