💻 Codecademy beginner course for Python 3 💻

Are you looking for something new to learn? Do you plan on switching careers? Do you want to start programming and don't know how? Well, my friend, this course might be the suitable one for you.

I'm a complete stranger to everything related to programming, so I had to do some research and talk to friends to get to know how was the best way to start learning and not get lost or discouraged in between. Truth is that sometimes we think that we need to have some background information before starting and this is not the case.

About Codecademy

Codecademy is one of the hundred websites in which you can learn at your own pace and you can choose from a wide range of courses and career paths. It's very easy to use and userfriendly when it comes to browsing the different things you can do.

As well as this, and as you may see from the screen above, they try to encourage the user to keep on learning day by day. They use a strategy called 'gamification', in which they present some relevant data as a game for you to feel like keep on studying. You can set the amount of days that you're planning to study and it counts you days and weeks strike. Also, you can see very clearly the progress on the courses you're doing.

As I've said before, there are plenty of things for you to learn in this website and what you can find in here:

You can either choose the type of language you want to learn, what profession you're willing to perform and different skills that might polish the ones you already have.

Some of their courses are free and for some others you need to have a pro user. Pro users pay USD 20 per month, and you can use it as much as you want, or USD 100 per the entire year. I've done some research from online courses here in my country, and they're way cheaper in Codecademy. Extra points!

Python 3: Beginner course

As I had said before, I had no idea about anythign related to Python before doing this course and my first impression was that tasks and concepts are really easy to understand in the way they're presented.

The list of concepts you go through is the following:

  • Basic syntax
  • Control Flow
  • Lists
  • Loops
  • Functions
  • Strings
  • Modules
  • Dictionaries
  • Files
  • Classes

After these, you also have challenges, which are exercises for you to practice what you've learnt. There are exercises that you do as well in between the lessons and you get shown the way if you're feeling completelly lost. Examples given are also well explained and interesting, which makes it a lot funnier to learn. You also have quizzes and questions while learning, so as to check of any concept that you might have understood wrongly.

Another good thing about this is that you don't need to install anything on your computer to learn, everything's online. You get the console on the webpage to see the results of what you're programming.

After you are done, you get a certificate that you've succeded on learning the basic stuff for Python developing.

My opinion on this course:

I really enjoyed this course!

My certificate!

All concepts were very well explained and all examples were really fun to work with. I believe this is a crucial part, as we're just beginning on our journey to programming and everything can feel really overwhealming from time to time.

Is this enough to get a programming job? Some people say it is, some people say it's not. At least, from my point of view, it's a great starting point... but you need to keep on learning. Whether' it's Python Intermediate or something else, it's great that you keep on studying and polishing what you already know.

It has been a great experience and I'm glad that I gave myself the chance to do it.
