"Lo Imposible" es una película de drama que narra la historia de una familia que se va de vacaciones en navidad al país de Tailandia. Al estar disfrutando de la vista del mar y en la piscina el 26 de diciembre de 2004, un gran terremoto en el océano Indicó, produce una inmensa ola que trae caos y destrucción, y que divide a esta familia que procura dentro de la película hacer hasta la imposible para volver a encontrarse todos juntos luego de que el tsunami los sorprendiera.

"The Impossible" is a drama film that tells the story of a family that goes on Christmas vacation to the country of Thailand. Esta obra es basada en hechos reales, específicamente en la historia de María Velón (una doctora española) quien de toda su familia fue la más afectada al ocurrir la catástrofe. La doctora expreso que al sentir que venía el tsunami escuchó: "De repente oímos un ruido horrible, como el sonido de miles de grandes aviones". y también comentó: «El tsunami fue un regalo para aprender a valorar la vida. Toda mi vida es tiempo extra. No hay ninguna diferencia entre yo, una mujer española llamada María que está viva, y miles de madres que se encuentran bajo el mar. Yo no merezco estar con vida, pero la vida no es justa. Siento dolor y compasión por tantos otros que no sobrevivieron o perdieron a sus seres queridos. Toda mi historia está en mi cuerpo. Resumen de la película / Summary of the movie

Todo inicia con la familia en el avión camino a Tailandia, al llegar se hospedaron en "La Orquídea" un resort, un lugar recién remodelado con piscina incluida, comparten y disfrutan de navidad y noche buena en la playa, hasta que el 26 de septiembre se encontraba la familia en la piscina, el padre Enrique (Quique) jugando con sus tres hijos: Lucas (10), Simón (5) y Tomás (8) dentro de la piscina, mientras que María leía una novela española al observarlos jugar con una pelota. En eso se escucha un sonido muy inusual y logran notar la gran ola que sobrevino con fuerza y arrastró todo a su paso. María emergen del agua entre tantos remolinos y la fuerte corriente, María sufre fuertes lesiones, al ser arrastrada por la corriente logra encontrar a su hijo mayor Lucas, entre los dos se ayudaron mutuamente hasta que fueron encontrados por unos nativos, quienes le realizaron unas curas a María y la trasladaron junto a Lucas al hospital, el hospital estaba colapsado, estando en el hospital mientras María era atendida, Lucas estuvo ayudando a personas para que se reencontrarán con sus familiares.

Por otra parte, el marido de María llamado Enrique (Quique) logró hallar a sus dos hijos Tomás y Simón, a quienes envía a un refugio para él continuar buscando a su esposa y a su otro hijo en la zona del desastre, por suerte ellos salieron del tsunami sin ninguna lesión. Al pasar el tiempo entre tanto agobio, un día Lucas sale a la zona externa del Hospital, y escucha un grito de su hermano Tomás, los estaban transportando hacia el refugio pero Tomás había bajado a orinar en el hospital, lo cual llevó al reencuentro de los tres hermanos, después de tanto buscar en diferentes hospitales, el padre Enrique (Quique) pasa ya casi sin esperanzas por el último hospital que era donde se encontraba María y allí se encuentra con su familia después de la tragedia (esta parte de la película es que toca las fibra de tus emociones); luego María es intervenida quirúrgicamente para ser trasladada la familia a Singapur de retorno de sus vacaciones y que así pudieran tratar a María en un hospital que no se encontrará paralizado por tantos pacientes.

Es muy sorprende la magnitud de esta gran onda, el terremoto destrozó con toda Tailandia, sin duda el tsunami (terremoto) del Océano Indicó ha sido uno de los más catastróficos de la historia.

En lo personal, es una de las mejores películas que he visto de desastre naturales y una de mis favoritas (la vería 20 veces más), de verdad que te hace ver el tsunami a escala real, la magnitud y su fuerza destructora; también experimentar lo difícil que fue está situación durante y después de que la ola abarcó toda Tailandia. Es demasiado hermoso el momento en que la familia se reencuentran demostrando que no todo estaba perdido, y que Dios tenía un propósito con todo esto.

Personally, it is one of the best natural disaster films I have seen and one of my favorites (I would see it 20 more times), it really makes you see the tsunami on a real scale, the magnitude and its destructive force; also experiencing how difficult this situation was during and after the wave swept across Thailand. It is too beautiful the moment when the family meet again proving that all was not lost, and that God had a purpose with all this.

El director de esta película fue J. A. Bayona y los protagonistas fueron: Naomi Watts, Ewan McGregor, Tom Holland, Samuel Joslin y Oaklee Pendergast.La película estuvo nominada a 14 Premios Goya, y obtuvo 5.

La película fue expuesta por primera vez en el Festival de Cine de San Sebastián en el año 2012 y el 11 de octubre se estrenó en las taquillas españolas. Llegó a norteamérica en diciembre del mismo año.

The film was exhibited for the first time at the San Sebastián Film Festival in 2012 and on October 11 it was released at the Spanish box office. He arrived in North America in December of the same year.
