Introduction
In the year 2007, I had just started my B.Sc programme and was staying temporarily at my Aunt's when I saw the novel 'An Echo in the Darkness'. Being a novel addict, I started reading it immediately and could not put it down until I finished it. The novel was the best I had read up until that point in my life. The author Francine Sandra Rivers but goes by the name Francine Rivers has over the years, become my favourite author.

Brief History
She is an American, born on 12 May, 1947 to a Police Officer father and a nurse mother.
She attended University of Nevada, Reno where she got her B.Sc in English and Journalism. She thereafter started working as a newspaper reporter writing obituaries and human interest stories.

Genre
Francine Rivers started out her writing career as a historical romance novelist publishing the first manuscript in 1976 that is at age 29.

She says before she got born-again in 1986, she struggled with her marriage and felt like moving away to concentrate more on her writing. She decided with her husband to move their family to a different location and that was where she met a little boy Eric. Eric invited her and her family to his church, where she eventually went. It was there she got saved even though she had been a Protestant all her life.

For some time after that, she could not continue writing the contemporary romance novels and after much studying of God's word, she happened upon the book of Hosea which led to her writing her first Christian romance novel, Redeeming Love.

Published Works
After Redeeming Love was published in 1991, it hit the market and made a lot of sales. She has written many other very interesting reads that I have read like 'Her Mother's dream', 'Her Daughter's Hope', 'Scarlet thread', 'The Last Sin eater', 'The bridge to haven', 'An echo in the darkness', 'The atonement child's and many more I have not yet read.

Favourite Novel
I thought I had read the best when I read 'An Echo in the Darkness', but her first novel 'Redeeming Love' has become my favourite.

Redeeming Love set in America in the 1800s features Sarah born out of wedlock, rejected by her father and grandparents is later sold into prostitution after the death of her mother. She is renamed 'Angel' because of her beauty. While in slavery, a young farmer named Michael Hosea is directed by God to go marry her.

Angel who feels unworthy, rejects his offer but out of circumstances later marries him but runs away several times and is always brought back by Michael.

The last time she runs away, she realizes her calling is to reintegrate prostitutes and other less fortunate women into the society by them doing legal work. She is helped by her new friend Susanne.

Along the line, Michael's brother Paul who she slept with at one time and hated her came looking for her because his wife Miriam who was Angel's friend forced him to do so. He finally finds her and forgives himself for all the hatred he had towards her. She agrees to follow him back and is received by the ever patient Michael Hosea who had never stopped loving her and believed that one day, she would return on her own volition.

Even though she believed she could never have children, she finally gave birth and they lived happily ever after.

Conclusion
Francine Rivers' books brings the emotions out of the reader. The reader will cry, laugh, sad at some point but definitely be happy at last. All her books have been exceptional. The books 'her mother's hope' and 'her daughter's dream' which run across four generations of women is equally captivating.
Everyone would enjoy her masterpieces both Christians and non Christians.
