Chapter 1: engeance

1.1 Fiery bursts

People call the process by which children begin to remember things, understanding.

Zhao C, has no half memories of his childhood before he was five years old. What he remembers when he understands things are only two things.

Fiery red and deafening bursts.

Flames, blood, roars and wails.

When he got out from under the bed, he saw his mother, her limbs severed and silent, and his father, struggling and thrashing in a pool of blood. His father's throat had been cut, and the gaping hole was like a spring, inexhaustible and unstoppable.

The father stared with bloodshot eyes and grabbed Zhao C's left ankle.

Opened his mouth, bared his teeth, twisted his lips and tongue and throat, but could not say a word.

Zhao C remembered the two mouth patterns that his father kept repeating. In the following fifteen years of days and nights of constant recall, Zhao C confirmed these two words.

The flames rose up and crawled all over the world in a flash, Zhao C failed to see his father die, and lost consciousness in the heated red.

Fifteen years have passed.
