From a young age I´ve been a follower of the horror genre, doesn´t matter if they are video games, movies or series, whatever the format, I quite like the genre and I feel that it has a lot of potential to continue growing in the future. From the horror genre, different franchises have been born that have marked a before and after in the world of cinema, some like A Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th but which I am going to talk about in this post and my personal favorite franchise is Saw or known in Latin America as ¨Juego Macabro¨.

Saw started with its film called ¨Saw¨ released in 2004, the interesting thing is that it was a film with a limited budget, it was only made for a million dollars and managed to collect an incredible amount of 103 millions of dollars, resulting in great success and profitability.

This franchise was so successful at the time that due to its high demand, a movie was made and shown in theaters every year, so the franchise never had a break until it was possible to get as much money as possible, it was until 2010 that the penultimate Saw movie was released, finally the franchise could be given a break because it did not meet expectations, it took 7 years until the last Saw movie so far called Jigsaw was released, actually the ¨Saw¨franchise has a number of 8 movies until date.

One of the reasons why Saw was so popular at the time and even now, was because of its somewhat graphic content, people love to see those things and it was really interesting to see how the victims escaped the traps, even so, Saw is more than blood and corpses or traps, it has a story that boards on some certainly sensitive topics, it is also characterized by having a somewhat tangled plot that is not easy to understand if you have not watched any of the films in their chronological order.

Saw tells the tragedy of John Kramer how after being diagnosed with cancer he loses his will to live and tries to commit suicide, curiously John survives the suicide attempt, he feels frustrated since he lost everything, adding that to a cancer that will end his life sooner rather than later, John envies others who, without having great personal problems, do not appreciate their life.

This is how John decides to dedicate himself to making people understand that their life is precious and unique, that they should not waste their day to day, all of this in what little he has left of life, however, he does not believe that people can change, unless you put them in extreme situations of life and death, in each film John will elaborate a number of traps to their victims who do not appreciate their life, antisocial or bad people in the world or people with inappropriate behaviors.

There are numerous characters in Saw that are very interesting but my favorite is John, even though you know what he does is wrong, you can empathize a lot with his situation, many of the quotes that John says are true, in this world most of people do not know how to value their life and meanwhile others who do value it tend to lose it quite quickly, John despite being the antagonist of the franchise, at the same time he is not, he is a person who is broken and who really believes he is doing well under his moral standards.

I remember watching Saw at a very young age, of course I did not understand the context so much since I was a little kid, however as you grow up you realize the powerful message that this film leaves, the first one I saw was Saw IV, it is hard to me to say which is my favorite of all since in general it is a franchise with a good quality but I think my favorites are the third and fourth films, my least favorite film of this franchise are the sixth and seventh which is where you notice a certain downturn in quality and ideas, still not bad movies.

As much as I like this franchise, I have to admit that not everything is pretty since this franchise is still alive thanks to money, this leads to there being too many films that unnecessarily lengthen the story, in turn causing a certain drop in quality, so the latest movies that have come out of this franchise are not as good as the first ones.

Saw may have its negatives things but at least for me, it is still a great franchise, it boards a topict as sensitive as suicide and knows how to handle it very well, giving a good message and moral in each of his films, each character is important my favorite being John Krammer, a very human and interesting character whose methods are not the most suitable, full of frustration and hatred, in addition to all this, each film has a plot twist at the end, these plot twists are usually very good and unforeseen , every movie is very unpredictable and I think that's why it's my favorite franchise.

Desde muy joven he sido seguidor del género de terror, no importa si son videojuegos, películas o series, sea cual sea el formato, me gusta bastante el género y siento que tiene mucho potencial para continuar creciendo en el futuro. Del género de terror han nacido distintas franquicias que han marcado un antes y un después en el mundo del cine, algunas como Pesadilla en Elm Street o Viernes 13 pero de lo que voy a hablar en este post y mi franquicia personal favorita es Saw o conocida en Latinoamérica como ¨Juego Macabro¨.

Saw inició con su película llamada ¨Saw¨ estrenada en 2004, lo interesante es que fue una película con un presupuesto limitado, solo se hizo por un millón de dólares y logró recaudar una cantidad increíble de 103 millones de dólares, resultando en gran éxito y rentabilidad.

Esta franquicia tuvo tanto éxito en su momento debido a su gran demanda, se hacía una película y se mostraba en los cines todos los años, por lo que la franquicia nunca tuvo un respiro hasta sacar la mayor cantidad de dinero posible, fue hasta 2010 que se estrenó la penúltima película de Saw, finalmente se le pudo dar un respiro a la franquicia porque no cumplió con las expectativas, pasaron 7 años hasta que se estrenaó la última película de Saw hasta la fecha llamada Jigsaw, Saw tiene un número de 8 películas hasta ahora.

Una de las razones por las que Saw era tan popular en ese momento e incluso ahora, fue por su contenido algo gráfico, a la gente le encanta ver esas cosas y fue realmente interesante ver cómo las víctimas escapaban de las trampas, aun así, Saw es más que sangre y cadáveres o trampas, tiene una historia que aborda algunos temas ciertamente delicados, además se caracteriza por tener una trama un tanto enredada que no es fácil de entender si no has visto ninguna de las películas en su orden cronológico.

Saw cuenta la tragedia de John Kramer, luego de ser diagnosticado con cáncer pierde las ganas de vivir y trata de suicidarse, curiosamente John sobrevive al intento de suicidio, se siente frustrado ya que lo perdió todo, agregando eso a un cáncer que terminará con su vida más temprano que tarde, John envidia a otros que, sin tener grandes problemas personales, no aprecian su vida.

Es así como John decide dedicarse a hacer entender a las personas que su vida es preciosa y única, que no deben desperdiciar su día a día, todo esto en lo poco que le queda de vida, sin embargo, él no cree que la gente pueda cambiar, salvo que los pongas en situaciones extremas de vida o muerte, en cada película John elaborará una serie de trampas a sus víctimas que no aprecian su vida, personas antisociales o malas del mundo o personas con comportamientos inapropiados.

Hay numerosos personajes en Saw que son muy interesantes pero mi favorito es John, aunque sabes que lo que hace está mal, puedes empatizar mucho con su situación, muchas de las frases que John dice son ciertas, en este mundo la mayoría de la gente no sabe valorar su vida y mientras tanto otros que sí la valoran tienden a perderla con bastante rapidez, John a pesar de ser el antagonista de la franquicia, al mismo tiempo no lo es, es una persona que está rota y que realmente cree que hace el bien según sus estándares morales.

Recuerdo haber visto Saw a una edad muy joven, claro que no entendía tanto el contexto ya que era un niño pequeño, sin embargo a medida que creces te das cuenta del poderoso mensaje que deja esta franquicia, la primera que vi fue Saw IV , me cuesta decir cuál es mi favorita de todas ya que en general es una franquicia con buena calidad pero creo que mis favoritas son la tercera y cuarta, mis películas menos favoritas de esta franquicia son la sexta y séptima que es donde se nota un cierto bajón en la calidad y las ideas, aún así no son malas.

Por mucho que me guste esta franquicia, tengo que admitir que no todo es bonito ya que esta franquicia sigue viva gracias al dinero, esto lleva a que hayan demasiadas películas que alargan innecesariamente la historia, provocando a su vez una cierta bajón de calidad por lo que las últimas películas que han salido de esta franquicia no son tan buenas como las primeras.

Saw puede tener sus cosas negativas pero al menos para mí, sigue siendo una gran franquicia, aborda un tema tan sensible como el suicidio y sabe manejarlo muy bien, dando un buen mensaje y moral en cada una de sus películas, cada personaje es importante y mi favorito personal es John Krammer, un personaje muy humano e interesante cuyos métodos no son los más adecuados, lleno de frustración y odio, además de todo esto, cada película tiene un giro argumental al final, estos giros argumentales suelen ser muy buenos, cada película es muy impredecible y siento que por eso es mi franquicia favorita.
