Management won't attain any Interviews

The management of the supermarket, won’t attain any short interviews, but a few staff who wouldn’t appear on the camera said that the management would release a press statement on the fire incident.

Speaking to Mr. Bassey Ekong, he said “ Most of us living on this Oron road, do buy most of the groceries here at a very affordable price and most of our children also work here as we have limited jobs in the country, even most students who live in this environment also work here as part-time workers in other to take care of their school bills and their feeding welfare., now that this thing has happened, how are they going to survive, how are we going to survive? I begged the government to come to our rescue. ”

Also, speaking to Miss. Idara gift, who is a worker there and also a student at the University of Uyo, said:
“Over 300 youths have lost their jobs now, and most of us don’t have any hope at all, this was where we used to feed on and this was where we used to get money to buy our textbooks and other school materials, most of us don’t have parents, we just came out here to hustle in other to survive, right now, I am so confused and heartbroken, I don’t know what to do, I don’t know where to start again.”

The Inferno at NtepSmart by Oron Road, Uyo Close to FCMB bank was caused by an electrical surge, the Security at the Supermarket who worked the night shift Said.

The Security who pleaded anonymity said the fire started from the powerhouse of the building around 12 am on Saturday morning which is today 2nd April 2022.

This is as he accused the fire Service team of arriving at the scene late considering how long they were called on the phone.

He said, “This fire started by 12am, I and other members who were around called the state fire service but unfortunately they didn’t respond on time, we had to call the Federal Fire service team, and they responded, but the firefighters came late, meanwhile, before now, I and other people in the Neighborhood made attempt to put out the fire with our little skills, we even try to find a way to get the fire extinguisher, but the hot flames wouldn’t let us inside. The fire wouldn’t have escalated if those firefighters were to arrive here on time, it’s quite unfortunate that billions of Naira have gone”

This is one of the most popular supermarkets in the Uyo metropolitan situated at the center of the city-owned by an indigene of Uyo, unlike others that are owned by a visitor.

The ever-busy supermarket is now a shadow of itself and as the management counts its losses, the fate of young men and women who work in and around the supermarket hangs in the balance, their hope is that once striving source of livelihood for many would bounce back soon.

Mr. Idongesit Ekong, felt sad for this tragedy

Sympathizers, expressed their concerned

"I have worked here in the bakery section for over two years now, I use the money I make here to take care of my wife and two kids, now that this has happened to me, I am so hopeless, nobody has money to assist others, I don't want to be a parasite either to anyone, but at this point, I need help, I don't know where to start, I really hope to see this place bounce back again, if possible"-Mr. Idongesit Ekong, one of the Sales representatives Cried out.

And that's all we have for today's update, thank you very much and may you have a wonderful weekend.
