There are many songs that are peculiar to my country Nigeria.
Due to having many ethnic group and languages, states and capitals, there are a lot of local songs according to each culture.
Each state have their particular dance and music they are known for and once the dance is being presented, we already know where it is coming from.
Apart from the local songs of each ethnic groups, there are many other songs that are popularly known by everyone. We have the following:
- The hip hop
- The Highlife
- Jazz
- The Bongo music
- The Blues
Today I'll talk about a very popular and most used songs in Nigeria, The afrobeats
Nigeria Afrobeats
The afrobeats is the music that is recognized to be Nigerian.
It is a series of music that has its distinct sound from different musical influences. The music styles is always anchored in west Africa style and in particular the highlife music, other sounds are also added to it such as the American jazz and funk and all of it are used to form the unique music called the Nigerian afrobeats.
The below is the dance I performed with my cousin with one of the Afrobeats music:
Today there are hundreds and thousands of Afrobeats that has been produced and each year or almost each month has its own trend of the afrobeat.
It is known for its use of complex rhythms, repeating vocals and mix of language and the pidgin English language is mostly used.
The beauty of the Nigerian afrobeats
The music and all it's upbeats, energetic melodies caused anyone to dance to it. Dancing to Nigerian afrobeats helps to relieve the mind if stress and keeps it in good mood.
The Afrobeats contains mostly funny lyrics that most times teach valuable lessons as well. Listening to the jovial lyrics is quite entertaining.
The afrobeats moves visitors in Nigeria to dance to it and it's combination of many sounds and instruments amazes them. I've seen many foreigners dancing and performing with the Nigerian afrobeats.
There are plenty of artist that create the moving hits that makes dancing to it irresistible.
One if the favorite artists is Rema, he became even more popular when he released the music that became the favorite of both young and old. The music is entitled Baby calm down. Below you can see the official video.
After the music was released, it was used to perform many dance shows, it became very popular and widespread. Below are some of the performances that have been done with the music...
Nigerian Afrobeats and other country's music
There may be similarities as in the musical instruments, the bands and others. But the Afrobeats is quite unique, the combinations of instruments to produce hip shaking music is quite amazing.
