I am no professional in news reporting but i manage to write this particular blog to let you guys know about the flood situations in my area. Lots of prayers for the families who are effected by these killer floods.

Introduction

Kalabagh is a small town situated in Mianwali District, Punjab Province, Pakistan. The town is located on the right bank of the Indus River, about 100km southwest of the provincial capital, Lahore.

On 25 July 2013, a flash flood swept through the town of Kalabagh, leaving at least 20 people dead and over 100 injured. The event was similar to a previous flash flood that hit the town on 15 July 2013, which left 13 people dead and 50 injured. The floods are thought to have been caused by heavy rainfall that resulted in the overflowing of the Kalabagh River.

Facts about the 2022 floods in Pakistan

On September 2022 , due to heavy monsoon rains and many cloud bursts in the region, an intense rainstorm affected Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K P), Punjab Province and Sindh province. The rainstorm left a trail of destruction in its wake, with more than 150 people killed and over 1,000 injured. Among the most severely affected provinces was KP, where over 200 people were killed and over 1,600 injured. In GB alone, the death toll reached 113 while the number of injured topped 2,500. The rains also caused widespread damage to infrastructure including roads, bridges and communication networks.

Effected area in the country

Floods also affected other parts of Pakistan including Sindh, Balochistan and Azad Kashmir. In particular, the most severe flooding was reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and GB provinces. In total, over 2 million people were affected by the floods and around 5 million people were displaced due to the rains. The Hindko-Urdu word “Kalabagh” means “black garden”.

The Kalabagh area has been affected by floods every year since 1993, when heavy rains caused the Indus River to overflow its banks. The 2013 and July 2018 floods were particularly severe due to the heavy rainfall that occurred in both cases.

Steps government should take

The government of Pakistan should take steps to improve the drainage system in the area, particularly in light of the recent floods that have affected the town. Additionally, the government should extend assistance to those affected by the floods and rebuild damaged infrastructure. Finally, officials should work to prevent future flash floods from occurring in Kalabagh by improving weather forecasting capabilities.

Precautions to avoid any major loss

As citizens of Pakistan, we should be aware of the risks posed by floods and take steps to protect ourselves from them. We should regularly check the weather conditions in our area and update family and friends about any warnings or alerts that may be issued. If we are ever affected by a flood, we should follow instructions from local authorities to ensure our safety. Finally, we can make a financial donation to relief organizations working in areas affected by flooding.

Conclusion

The September 2022 floods were a devastating event that affected many parts of Pakistan. The heavy rains and cloud bursts caused widespread damage, including deaths and injuries.

By taking these steps, we can help protect ourselves and our community from the dangers posed by floods.
This report of mine is a little reminder to all of us to think about the current climate changing situations worldwide and make an effort on one's end at all the measures.
