Introduction

There have been fire disasters across Nigeria in recent weeks which have destroyed a lot of businesses and properties. A time that causes setbacks for businesses, it's really a time no one wishes to experience as labors of years tend to vanish in a blink of an eye. It's quite unfortunate that my town also experiences a disaster of such last week.

ArtDeco Interior and Furniture Limited

ArtDeco is a civil engineering and furniture company known for the production of different unique and high-quality furniture in Nigeria and general constructions with over 20 years spent in the business of quality projects across West Africa. ArtDeco has won a lot of awards in the category of business they are into.

Some of the products from the business are home furniture, dining sets, office tables, and sales of accessories for home and office beautification, sales of electronics, and so on. ArtDeco has its head office in my town, Osogbo, and several branches across the country. I have included the company in one of my past articles in "my town in ten pictures" before.

The Inferno at ArtDeco

It was a very unfortunate event for ArtDeco last week, precisely on Nov 3 when fire gutted the business causing distress that no business wishes to experience. According to the information gathered from the occupants of the area, the fire started around 01:00 on Thursday and the time it happened made it worse.

An event like that happening at such silent hours of the day in this part of the world makes the destruction more intense as not many would have been alerted early enough to put a call through the fire service to quench the burning destruction. I was there Friday morning, Nov 4th and it was a pathetic one, I was able to gather the information that the inferno continued for many hours before the Federal and State fire services arrived.

The image above is the picture of the leftover of ArtDeco after multimillion naira worth of products were destroyed. The inferno has not only affected ArtDeco alone but also spread its tentacles to another business building (an old complex) beside it and causes a complete destruction. These buildings are situated at a very popular local market in the town, Alekuwodo market.

The executive governor of the state ordered the demotion of the second building because it was almost down with the impact of the fire, this was done to avoid further disasters. I have taken a lot of pictures of the disaster scene.

The demolition of the second building was still ongoing at the time of my visit to the scene as some of the small business owners that occupied the building were around to see if there is still anything valuable they can retrieve from the building while the demolition was going on, that's very pathetic.

ArtDeco was still standing tall but it has lost a lot and I doubt if demolition won't be what ends its journey while they erect another structure in the future. As a reporter at the scene, a video of the process of demolition and clearing was recorded.

It can be seen from the video above the process of the demolition and the people speaking the local language while some that occupied the building with their businesses are hoping a few things can be retrieved. The Public Relations Officer of the Federal Fire Service in the state said the inferno was due to an power surge.

In conclusion, ArtDeco has been a very prominent business in the interiors and furniture space in this part of the world, and this unfortunate event will affect the operation of the business. It would be great to see the rise of the building again and the business coming back to offering its services. Thanks for reading from "My Corner" today. I hereby invite @msquaretk, @solexybaba and @pelon53 to take part in the contest.

This is so pathetic judging from the loss of items worth of money by the owner of the business. Fire incident is so powerful and as such can bring down whatsoever that is standing on it way if not controlled on time.

This is indeed a hot news from your location, I really hope that this will be a blessing in disguise to the owner of the business. Thank you for inviting, you have done well sir.

It is a very heartbreaking one, no matter how financially solid a company was, there is always a setback accompanied by an event like this.

I do hope the firm bounces back quickly from this as well. Thanks for visiting, @solexybaba.

Truly a heartbreaking event for everyone. Hopefully the situation will improve now and I hope there are no casualties there.

Keep it up bro @fredquantum

Indeed, a heartbreaking one. The destruction has lessened now and I feel the company would be working on how to bounce back already, I will be visiting the location to see if there are new developments sooner.

That said, there were no casualties. Thanks for reading through.
