"Acting as a Good Samaritan".

Being in a tight corner can be so frustrating. How great it will be that you receive a sudden help you never wished or imagined. Imagine being in such situations. Wouldn't you be excited and happy? Of course, you will be. That's the reason why you need to stretch a hand to help your neighbour. It may not be financial, but it can be good moral support. How about that?

Like I've just described above, a good Samaritan is someone who renders unplanned help or kindness to another person who is in need. The need may be an emergency, and it may also not be an emergency.

I was going to church with my two children, and I was late. I carried the youngest while I tried to hurry the other one to walk fast. A good Samaritan in a young man saw me and asked "Hi ma'am, can I help to carry him? Do you mind?" "Oh, that's very thoughtful of you, thank you." The young man carried my son, made sure we got a tricycle and even paid for our transport fare.
That was an act of kindness I never hoped for. That young man was a good Samaritan.

That was last week. I saw an old lady who was trying to cross a busy road. Right from the distance I walked, I noticed she was trying to cross, but the road was too busy. Getting to her, I told her I was going to help her cross. She agreed. When the road was a bit clear, I held her hand, and we crossed to the other side of the road.
When we got there, she thanked me and prayed for me that she had stood there for sometimes trying to cross, but couldn't because of the busyness of the place. I felt happy I helped, though not with money.

Last week also, I paid a transport fare for a woman who was carrying a sick child. I noticed they were going to the hospital. The way she sat tells all wasn't well. When we got to her location, I told the driver I'd pay for her and the driver told her. She was so happy, from the smile on her face, I knew she was happy.

Like I mentioned, being a good Samaritan is not all about money. The woman I helped to cross the road. I didn't spend any money, but I noticed she stood there for a long time as I walked a distance towards her. I saw her effort in trying to cross to the other side. That was why I offered to help.

Then the other woman I paid for her transport fare, it was my children who called my attention to her child because of the way they looked at the child. It was strange to them because the child had a large head. I was moved as a mother, knowing how the child's condition could stress her as a mother. I was just looking round thinking about how to help her. I just thought I could help with her transport fare, which was just #200.

I didn't actually help to get benefits from them, but something happened to me on Sunday. I forgot to pick up money at home for my transport fare. I entered a mini-bus, unknown to me that I didn't carry money. Halfway to the journey I decided to check the money in my bag, to my greatest surprise, there was nothing.

My God, what will I do? The bus drivers don't understand "I forgot money at home. I quickly called my husband to know if he was at home to give my brother money to take it and stand by the road so that when I drop, I'd get it and give it to the driver. Immediately I dropped the call, the guy who sat by me asked me in my dialect how much my money was. He understood what I said on the phone, I told him, and he offered to pay for it.

He dropped before me and gave the driver the money. I was so happy that I was saved from embarrassment by the bus driver. I got my share of kindness immediately. That's the benefit I must have got from offering help last week.
