Exciting news for space enthusiasts! An asteroid is set to make a close approach to our planet tomorrow, May 3. This asteroid, named 2023 HV5, has caught the attention of scientists due to its proximity to Earth. It will pass by at a distance of only 435,000 kilometers, just slightly more than the distance between the Earth and the Moon. This has classified the asteroid as “potentially dangerous” by NASA, the American space agency.

But don’t worry, there’s no need to panic. The asteroid is relatively small, measuring about 41 feet wide, which is equivalent to the size of a bus. It belongs to the Apollo group of rocky disasters related to asteroids and is hurtling towards Earth at a speed of 35,152 kilometers per hour. While it is not expected to collide with our planet, scientists will continue to monitor its progress.

While the likelihood of an asteroid collision with Earth is low, it is still a possibility that scientists take seriously. A change in the direction of asteroids is possible, and if one were to collide with our planet, the destruction could be catastrophic. Some scientists even believe that the extinction of dinosaurs from Earth was due to an asteroid collision.

Asteroids are small, rocky objects that orbit the Sun, much like the planets in our solar system. Most asteroids can be found in the main asteroid belt, which is located between Mars and Jupiter. These space rocks come in a range of sizes, from as small as 10 meters to as large as 530 kilometers. In fact, the total mass of all the asteroids discovered so far is less than that of the Earth’s Moon.
